people on this website really want him to suffer the nightmare of being a us senator, lol

which is really weird because all his previous relationships were incredibly public right?

Regardless I think the next Dem trifecta should not only get rid of the filibuster but make shutdowns not a thing. Hopefully this shutdown and whatever ones we have or barely avoid in the next year will finally get people to realize we have to get rid of it.

I honestly don't believe they were ever going to nuke the filibuster. Don't think even going into next month would have done it.

the shutdown itself already shaped 2026 by further tanking Trump's approvals at least, i guess

I am not personally willing to pull the lever in the trolley problem but I didn't sign up to be one of the 535 trolley problem lever pullers.

if they were going to cave anyway they shouldโ€™ve done it a week ago to spare SNAP recipients the agony.

I think even if the fresh blood are still centrists, we need more Dems that actually understand who and what the Republicans are and are not deluded into thinking they have a conscience.

10.11.2025 00:54 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 14    ๐Ÿ” 1    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I agree with this as someone on SNAP.

I don't think the Republicans were ever going to cave to the ACA subsidy demand so I'm not sure why Dems made that their position in the first place.

I wish this deal was a lot better than it is but I can't lie that I'm feeling an insane amount of relief that this shutdown might finally be over. It has been an absolutely terrifying situation for the past month+.

10.11.2025 00:34 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 1    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I wish the deal was a hell of a lot better but good god I'm glad the shutdown may finally be over. Constant sleepless nights and seeing everyone in my building be miserable was not fun.

it also pissed off a lot of people and I'm not cynical enough to think they'll just forget the Republicans did this to them especially considering the recent election results

a lot less interesting to do the trolley problem when you are on the tracks

thanks to you and propter for the answers regardless. I hate this whole fucking situation.

does anyone know if the minibus includes section 8 or anything similar in it. the building I live in that is funded by it is in trouble if the shutdown goes into next year, at least from the notices they've put up and what the random HUD people have told me.

If you want to be the party of doing good things for people youโ€™re in a much harder place than the โ€œfuck โ€˜em allโ€ party

all that being said, Schumer and Jeffries have been profoundly weak, mostly helped out by just how stupid and deranged the Republicans have been. Let our enemies hang themselves is not a real strategy.

09.11.2025 19:18 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

like on a political calculus level I get it, the more chaos and suffering that Trump and the GOP inflict on the public the higher and higher the Dem gains in 2026 and 2028 will be but it's harder and harder for me to care about those elections personally when I might not even be around to see them.

09.11.2025 19:14 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I was fine with the shutdown going this long just to make it clear to the public how bad Trump is, which I think it has.

but theres a lot of increasing alarm around social security, section 8, and the like after the SNAP stuff. If this goes into December its approaching what DOGE wanted to achieve

09.11.2025 19:11 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I'm aware but if the shutdown lasts too long my life and the lives of everyone I live around are destroyed, which was already a goal of theirs with all the DOGE shit. I think they like the shutdown.

09.11.2025 19:06 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I feel like the two paths are shutdown lasts forever and we don't get ACA extensions or shutdown doesn't last forever and we don't get ACA extensions

I don't see the Republicans ever allowing the ACA extensions, even if the Senate GOP agrees to it either Johnson or Trump will not.

I'm cool with ending the shutdown but I also think Schumer and Jeffries need to go regardless.
