Those who think empathy is the enemy of the spiritual journey know nothing of the mystics, the saints, and the heart of GOD revealed in Jesus of Nazareth.

We are living through genocides, an unprecedented ecological crisis and away from democracies towards fascism in so many societies. In this context we must hear the words of Oscar Romero:

Situating our lives in the struggle for justice with the oppressed is the context of Jesus' command to love our enemies.

Stand with the oppressed, and you will have enemies.

This is your daily reminder that not only is empathy *not* a sin,

that according to Jesus,

MERCY -
(that is, compassionate empathy in action on behalf of others)
is God’s holiness and nature.

So, be compassionate, as the GOD revealed in Jesus is compassionate. (Luke 6:36)
