Well-managed urban stormwater ponds can be places of refuge and beauty. Here, a pair of pelicans has been in this naturalized stormwater pond for several weeks.

One might think that Nazi crimes and palaeontology never overlapped, and yet... Have you ever wondered what happened to tens of palaeontologists & geologists in the Nazi-occupied Poland? How academics helped to bring down the fascist regime. And a curious story of Schindler-equivalent in geology. 🧡

Cyanobacteria Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) are a natural and essential part of our environment and water ecosystems, and can be found in many ponds, lakes, rivers, and wetlands in New Brunswick.

Note that lakes without swimming beaches aren't monitored. Same for beaches during the off-season when there are no lifeguards.

Blue-green algae blooms can occur year-round as those are natural native species. NB has a nice explainer: www2.gnb.ca/content/gnb/...

What a dehydrated tobacco leaf looks like! I was curious to see how this method worked out. Leaf is very brittle and there is a nice herbal smell.

I will look into proper air curing methods in early Fall when the weather is drier (it's too humid now).
