28. The KLF: Last Train To Trancentral (LP mix) (1990)
Love the ’91 hit single version too, but ultimately it’s the more soulful and subtly dynamic LP mix I return to most frequently.

29. Lou Reed: Sword of Damocles (1992)
The sparse but propulsive arrangement makes a perfect backdrop to Lou’s tough, evocative narration. A massive late-career highlight.

Thanks! It’s a great area. Is your house in Torrevieja? That’s where we’re staying right now ☀️

30. Jon Spencer Blues Explosion: Talk About The Blues (1998)
This song’s experimental, raw swagger was pretty much the coolest thing I’d heard when it came out, and I actually still think it’s cool af.

No worries Nathan, and thanks for hosting obviously. I should have it all figured out by tomorrow at the latest 👍

1. Brian Eno: An Ending (Ascent) (1983)
My mother recently died. Her funeral is in two weeks, and we’ve decided to finish the ceremony with this is unfathomably beautiful piece. There was no way it was not going to be my #1 at this point 💔

For whatever reason they were canonized like no other disco band, weren’t they? I’m happy to be young enough to be allowed to enjoy disco, punk and prog rock in equal measure 🎶
29.10.2025 19:57 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Good call. This album stood out at the time, to me at least. An impressively diverse artist.
29.10.2025 19:40 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Yes I’ve read about that too. So many strong opinions involved. Imagine to have been a fly on the wall… Luckily (for the rest of us) it eventually resulted in two equally superb versions 😎

2. Diana Ross: Upside Down (1980)
Upside Down has one of the greatest performances by a rhythm section I’ve ever heard. Niles’ precise rhythm guitar, the barely perceptible little anomalies in Tony Thompson’s drum patterns. Just 🤩! Vocal delivery is ace too.

3. Siouxsie & The Banshees: Rhapsody (1988)
A postpunk song like no other. A richly textured, emotional eruption, both ominous and cathartic. Possibly my all-time favourite album closer.

4. Vangelis: Blush Response (1982)
Cascading percussion, layered, spiraling arpeggios and a beautiful, eerie melody. Astonishing song.

5. 808 State: Flow Coma (1988)
An undeniable piece of animated acid house perfection. The Prodigy’s greatest song ’Break & Enter’ is basically a rewrite of this 808 tune.🎶

Commanding and propulsive but also plenty of space that allows the music to breathe. Peter Murphy on 🔥. One of my favourite post-punk songs of all time.
