They always make these arguments based on some tortured, magical bookkeeping that makes it look like they’re breaking somewhat even on a yearly revenue vs cost basis while they neglect to mention that the franchise itself is worth like $4 billion and they could sell it for that tomorrow.

I mean to the extent that it’s actually worth thinking about any of the ridiculous shit these people say and never think about again, this is just wrong! The Orinoco sands need like a $200/bbl price before anyone even thinks about it!

The truly wild thing is this isn’t even true, a shit-ton of their oil reserves on paper are heavy tar sands and every US oil company will take one look at that at $80/bbl and walk away because it isn’t close to economically viable.
