Found a cache of old issues of Famous Monsters online, I remember poring over the small print of all these ads for hours as a kid. The giant Frankenstein poster was my heart's desire.

The goofy Halloween mask covers on these fuckers are basically the equivalent of the meme where you see a nerdy guy with Coke bottle glasses and a dress shirt buttoned up to the neck holding a bass and it says, "If you see this dude onstage with a local metal band, don't get in that pit, you are going to DIE."

It's a good book, though!

After it while, you get shit like, "Cheryl said, 'You won't believe what Bob said! He told me, "Cheryl,"'" And let me stop right there, because this is exactly how this book reads, and eventually the double and single quotes are a migraine-inducing hash no one who wasn't microdosing could decipher.

I have this edition of this novel. You can feel the editor's brain melting. The framing device has a character narrating most of the novel as dialogue, e.g., "Bob said to Cheryl, 'Get down from there!' Cheryl looked around, then said, 'Down from where?'" Etc. Fine as far as it goes, but...
