I'm going to do a bit of a rambling thread on the USS Athena from #StarfleetAcademy pointing out a few things I've noticed. 🧵 [1/?]

Why? Nothing wrong with being gay, male, and gentle. We come in all varieties, just like every other demographic. From my perspective, it's nice to see, and pushes against that idea that only masculine gay men are acceptable that's forced on us continually by the rest of society.

That is one sexy ship.

Yes! Especially talk to someone else in recovery! That may be the most difficult thing to do, for myself included. It’s so important to let go of our pride, or shame of needing help, or anxiety that you are imposing on someone’s time. If they can’t talk now, schedule it or call someone else.

They’re all amazing. Personally, It’s Burnham. I’ve been thinking a lot about her calm and measured tenacity and capacity to hold on to hope in the most dire circumstances.

Which of these #StarTrek women has influenced something that you believe about life the most?

Uhura. Much of my life and my work has involved connecting people from different backgrounds and helping them understand themselves and each other. Uhura was an early role model for me and is by far my favorite Star Trek character.
