Watching my peaceful colleagues bloodied, brutalized and violently arrested by the Illinois State Police left me so traumatized I had an acute trauma response in early January. The psychological distress is real. Pritzker and Burke have failed us.

My youngest dislocated her elbow and then apparently relocated it by excitedly throwing her arms in the air when she saw the ambulance at the ER. 100s of dollars to be told she was fine and to give her some tylenol. (I don't blame the docs/nurses)

We've started doing "truths to be told" during our joys/ concerns time at church because it is so disorienting to live in a moment where you/your neighbors are being gassed, shot and disappeared only to have the people who are supposed to be on our side* giving flowers to the fascist responsible.

But so many will remember. We say that, sometimes, when it's our children killed: Remember. And it may seem now like it's someone else's children, but there's no such thing as someone else's children. The problem with fixating on the abyss into which one's opponent has descended while simultaneously digging ones own is that, eventually, it gets too dark to tell the difference.

My hot take is that bad Christmas movies were so much better before “bad Christmas movies” became a thing. Now they’re too self aware and it’s REALLY hard to do that well.

I literally make all of my leadership boards read that as one of our first activities.

The unity and clarity of (many) Christian denominations right now is kind of astounding. To be in alignment with all Catholic Bishops, as a female clergywoman, is Holy Spirit work. And that's not even mentioning the interfaith solidarity. People of faith are united against a clear and present evil.

A few days ago as we were leaving McDonald's my 5 year old yells, "MOM STOP THE CAR! I FORGOT SOMETHING!" And I said, "what did you forget?" And she yelled, "MY BARBECUBES!" And now that is our name for all McDonald's sauces

This is a very effective tactic at the Broadview ICE detention center. They absolutely hate it when clergy chant things like, "Love your neighbor, love your God, save your soul and quit your job."

One time a woman came to our Bible study and told me that you couldn't use a Bible app on your phone because the devil could get into the technology and changed the words. I brushed it aside and continued my lesson and, well, sorry to that woman I guess...

Sometimes it’s surreal to think…the DHS called me an imbecilic moron today.

I was there. Not one attempted to hurt an officer. But police brutalized protesters with batons, threatened tasers, ripped people from the crowd, etc.

I asked on the mic, “Who saw the police brutalize someone they love today?” And 100 people raised their hands. Shame on Broadview’s Mayor.

Welp, this aged like milk. Really disappointed that @govpritzker.illinois.gov refuses to deal with the fact that the State Police are brutalizing peaceful protesters, including my unarmed clergy colleagues, to protect ICE at Broadview. We need more than speeches, our neighbors are disappearing.

@durbin.senate.gov gets to retire in wealth/security while millions of people lose their healthcare, suffer, and die for nothing. And he won't face the political consequences. There aren't words for the rage I feel at the betrayal of the IL people at the moment we are under attack. Shame.

Regular occurrence in my city now to come face to face with masked armed men and to have guns pointed at you. Amazing, if unsurprising, that regular Chicagoans response is not to cower but to tell them to get fucked.

As always in this house it’s, “sit down, shut up, Rahm Emmanuel” Emmanuel deserves the Cuomo treatment here in Chicago.

reminder David Axelrod and Rahm Emanuel both went on the record to Politico to say they were fine with this, either knowing the result would be mass death of children or being too dumb to know. Decide for yourself what’s worse!
