(In the 1970s, my mother's OBGYN recommended Guinness after childbirth to help with breastfeeding/milk production (I think?). Stout is/was medicine in the Ottawa Valley, apparently.)

In her later years, my grandmother never consumed enough calories, so to get any kind of anything into her, her doctor suggested Guinness. Which she mixed with ginger ale because she didn't like the taste.
