okay so I gave the latest 25.10 snapshot a try and while the video issue is still there (please be a software bug... but then Windows is fine so presumably it is?) sound works as expected

okay I see why Linux can have a bit of a Reputation. I definitely think people over exaggerate it though

okay so audio is seemingly broken on Ubuntu and video works but looks really glitchy. both work fine on Windows so thank god I don't think it's a hardware issue

say what you will about Windows one of the setup steps is explicitly about restoring data from an old device. now obviously that relies on OneDrive but if you've still got both devices surely a local solution is possible

I think the Linux ecosystem should work on a better device switching mechanism tbh
