Depending where you are, you may be able to get a used one for a fraction of that. Join weaver’s groups and fiber arts groups on social media and reach out to your local weaver’s guild. It may take a few weeks, but people downsize, quit hobbies and offer looms for cheap or even free.

Not at all inferior! Has a lot going for it that a floor loom doesn’t, like portable, inexpensive, can be DIY-ed, adjustable.

The very definition of a loom: holds warp threads straight. Everything else, shafts, beams, etc. are just the cherry on top.

Proof that anything holding warp under tension is a loom.
