FAMILIARS A familiar is an animal magically bonded to a mage. The kind of magic that joins the two is called 'interscission', and involves the magical cutting and sewing of the souls of both the animal and the mage so that they function as two distinct parts within a larger whole. The ethics of binding an animal who is incapable of self-advocacy to a mage have been hotly debated in recent years, but the practise is still widespread, particularly amongst mages with influence and power. The benefits of having a familiar include an increased amount of magical energy at your disposal, a trusted companion, and the ability to send your familiar as a representative to important events and locations, freeing up your time to focus on other pursuits. Most familiars are purpose-bred to have a larger-than-normal capacity for magical energy. It is possible to have more than one familiar but this can become difficult to manage emotionally, particularly where familiars of several differing species are concerned, as a degree of empathic leakage is guaranteed between mages and thier familiars.

I am immensely proud that this is something people are picking up on about the show, and it makes me so happy that people are interested in engaging in a more literary style of writing and story construction in this medium.

Something that's stood out to me about Remnants compared to the other work I make is the number of people who are interested in taking the time to write up what it is they find interesting about this show. Not just the characters or the mystery, but in the writing itself.

I would normally have had these episodes completely recorded in more advance than this but things have been mega busy through October and November 😬 I suppose sickness at the most inconvenient moment was inevitable. Sod’s Law innit.

I am on day 8 of what I think is tonsillitis, and there is no Sir recorded yet for 39 which is the problem. As you can imagine, one cannot Sir when one has a sore throat. Alas, this means there will be no new episode of Remnants on Monday.
