I've come to realize that most of my activity here is quite negative 🥲 My life isn't all doom and gloomy, just the career-searching part of it. I get to hang out with my dogs in-between my part-time work shifts. I'm persisting.

The current job market for science and research is absolutely depressing. I've been applying since December. With my specific research/career interests, it just seems like there's no way to land anything without a higher degree - not even guaranteed to get because of funding cuts. Awful all around.

Academia is so funny. You read enough papers and you start recognizing names. You notice the beef between scientists. You start looking at some as celebrities. ESPECIALLY in some more niche divisions. Very silly despite all the anguish.

Thank you 🫂 Really trying to push through it and continuing to apply to stuff. I'm also limited by where I can work due to needing to be near my specialists, so that cuts off a lot of opportunities.

I haven't had a single interview and I've been applying since the end of December. There was a job that I thought I was sure to get, and was super interested in, but I got a rejection last week for it 🫤 no feedback either.

This job search is just miserable.

Job market is rough, as you all know. If you have any leads on jobs in the Philadelphia area (closer to the city, the better. I depend on public transit). Today, after a difficult four years, I'm graduating with my bachelor's in chemistry, cum laude. I've made it through a concussion and various mental and physical health challenges but I made it. I'm a first-gen, disabled, queer student graduating from an Ivy League. My heart is full.
