White House stalls release of approved US science budgets The US Congress rejected sweeping cuts to science agencies. But the NIH, the NSF and NASA have had their spending slowed.

Congress rejected massive cuts to US science budgets for 2026, but much of the money still isn’t flowing to researchers.

The culprit? The White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is quietly slow-walking the release of funds. πŸ§΅πŸ‘‡

I appreciate receiving multiple copies of my abstract rejection after having received two notices previously of the same rejection. I get it. It is rejected. Please stop. 😭

They have long been a reliable source for training grants in my field so I can't imagine how it impacts PhD and post-doc funding in the next few years. Really sad.

That is what it sounds like. AHRQ funded for the T32 but no personnel to release funds is what I have heard.

Understanding the Impact of H.R.1 on Older Immigrants’ Access to Health Care - Justice in Aging H.R. 1 limits older immigrants’ access to Medicare, Medicaid, and ACA tax credits, leaving many uninsured and unable to afford care.

Later this year, a new law will end Medicare eligibility for hundreds of thousands of lawfully present older immigrants, including some refugees and asylees.

Here's what advocates need to know:

If you're in academia and you think we can just "ride this out," please read this #thread and think about how the current attacks on scientific research disproportionately affect junior researchers- who are literally the future.

As of tonight, licenses of trans people across Kansas are being invalidated en masse, enabling the overnight criminalization of an entire group of people for going about our lives. It’s often said you never know when you’re living through history, so let me assure you: that’s what’s happening now.

As my colleague Andy Schneider explained there is a complex administrative process CMS has to follow to preemptively withhold or retrospectively disallow federal #Medicaid funding for a state like MN. We are set to spend $10 trillion on the military over the next decade

The Trump plan would make it $15 trillion - a $5 trillion increase

Expanding Medicare to cover dental/vision/hearing care was estimated to cost ~$400 billion over a decade

One Pivotal Trial, the New Default Option for FDA Approval β€” Ending the Two-Trial Dogma | NEJM This Sounding Board announces a new FDA policy that the default requirement for FDA approvals will be one robust pivotal trial plus confirmatory evidence, rather than two trials.

This is just needless, self-destructive, and problematic as regulatory policy. Also there never was and isn’t a two trial β€œdogma.” Bad headline, NEJM.
