From the outside looking in, y'all seem like a fun and thoughtful bunch.

Every time I interact with someone in the English department, I'm glad I did. Whether it's in a learning community about alternative grading or book club about kindness in teaching, or chatting with your Chair while we both wait for our Chinese takeout on Christmas!

I just wrote and deleted a post about a novel that I'm finally reading because: 1) I'm years behind on reading this very popular book, and 2) I know Bluesky is different from the bad place but I still worry about spoilers 😅

@sbagley.bsky.social For example, the group laughed off the idea of bots teaching bots: professors using AI to write assignment descriptions, students inappropriately using AI to complete those assignments, then profs using AI to grade. When that is most definitely happening and should concern us.

Haha yeah, I joined to try to voice some legitimate concerns. But there appears to be an unspoken agreement that "AI is good" and "Faculty and students should be using it" and I just feel like the rest of the group is so far that way that my ethics questions are not going to land.

I'm learning this morning that I'm not sure I belong on the "AI Enablement Committee."
