They own the media, and use it to either control what you see & hear, or to manipulate your opinions.
They own our food supply, distribution, and retail outlets.
Nearly everything we buy or rent lines their pockets.

We are cattle to them, and they want us to know it.

It was one thing when it was faceless firms doing it, but now some of the billionaires are stepping out of the shadows, and want you to know who your masters are.

The Ellisons with Paramount & maybe WB.
The Saudis with EA.
Musk with Twitter. He's even floated buying Disney, once or twice.

The high prices we've been experiencing on everything is by design - they push their companies to be profitable by any means - raise prices, enshitify everything.

As private equity sees it, we're their money cows, and they are going to milk us dry and then have us processed for meat, so to speak.

The old way of owning big, publicly-traded companies was to purchase a controlling number of shares.
In the past decade, billionaires started pooling their resources through private equity firms to buy everything from stocks to houses to farm land.
They'd then treat it like an infinite money hack.

Growing up in the 80s, you'd always hear that the Japanese would own everything. That died down in the 90s, but then in the 2000s it was the Chinese who were going to own everything.

Now it's billionaires, except they actually do own a fair chunk of everything, to our detriment.

They also had job security. They could be sure that a game would only take 1-2 years to complete, and that they'd still have jobs afterword.
Today, you're lucky if a gig lasts more than 9 months. Everyone's a mercenary.

The high-budget AAA market can crash & burn to ashes, for all I care. It's unsustainable.

If the future of the industry is smaller, simpler games, I'm for it. Granted, I'm biased because I grew up in the 1980s & 90s.

I don't have any comment on Highguard, I'm just thinking about how two of my all-time favorite games - Super Mario Bros 3 & Super Mario World - were made by about a dozen people over the course of 2 years, each.
And that was without the convenience of modern tools.

I'm leaning towards Tomorrowland - fairly simple buildings, and little foliage. Fantasyland could be next, mainly because I'd like to have the Skyride from/to Tomorrowland.
Tom Sawyer Island & Splash Mountain are other reasons for the whole idea.

Now we're at a point where one can spend a decade working on a glorified tech demo.
For some, that could be their entire career.
And if the game gets cancelled? If it remains under NDA, then you have nothing to show for that time.

I want to say the longest I've ever worked on a game, was 2 years. 4 years from start to finish was typical, but that's creeped up as GPUs became more powerful, and companies became obsessed with hyper-realism to show off what that hardware was capable of.

Early in my animation career, I'd wanted to work on feature films. My supervisor insisted that games were better - you could work on several titles in the time it takes for one film to be made.
That doesn't seem to be the case anymore, though.
A game spending a decade in production is absurd.
