Before (2019) / After (2025) the pedestrianization and greening of the dead-end Rue du Cardinal Mercier in the 9th arrondissement of Paris. The work was completed at the end of 2023, and just a year and a half later, there is quite a lot of green.

Before (2017) / After (2025) the 700m two-way bike path along Rue Belgrand, Paris 20. It was built in 2024, replacing the two narrow bike lanes on the sides. The street became one-way for motorised traffic, with some street parking added to narrow it to slow the traffic I think.

Because this project will be fully grade separated, it should be built as automated light metro (e.g., Toulouse Metro, Milan M5, Honolulu Skytrain). This can enable:
—More reliable & often faster service
—More frequent service
—Shorter platforms (& thus cheaper-to-build stations)

Before (2024) / After (2025) parking spaces replaced by trees on Rue Pixérécourt in the 20th arrondissement of Paris. No, it's not an optical illusion — that much road really is gone, both photos were taken from the same spot with the same lens.

Before (2017) / After (2025) Rue David d’Angers, Paris 19. Very recently, sidewalk car parking was replaced by bike racks, some street parking was removed, and a pedestrian refuge was added. Small changes you might say, but far bigger changes are being done on both streets at the ends of this one.

Before (2020) / After (2024) Pont de la Concorde in Paris. The StreetView updates show not only the evolution of the infras, but also to some extent the increase of their use. Note: the strip of asphalt laid down to protect the cobblestones during the works for the Olympics has since been removed

One of the biggest barriers to re-greening cities is the idea every resident is entitled to ten square metres of paved public space on which to store a private vehicle that sits idle for 23.5 hours each day. A notion Reims is slowly challenging, and de-paving its streets one parking space at a time.

In late 2023, Amsterdam introduced a 30 km/h limit. A large number of arterials were lowered from 50 km/h, 4,500 signs installed, 140 lights reconfigured, and 200 km of markings adjusted. Aiming to improve safety, liveability and accessibility, 80% of the road network is now at this critical speed.🧵

The brief experience of Genova's transit agency with (partially) free transit is probably coming to an end after 3 years because it's costing more than expected, and it's ultimately financially unsustainable in the long run
Very similar story to the 1973-75 brief venture of Bologna with free buses
