Before (2024) / After (2025) the new protected bike lanes on Boulevard Henri IV, Paris Centre. I’ll let the jury decide whether the difference between a painted line and some physical protection influences whether cyclists ride two abreast or on a single file ;)

Before (2016) / After (2022) Rue Vercingétorix, Paris 14. On this part, the very old bike lane "on the sidewalk", built in 1980, was moved onto the roadway when one row of car parking was removed in 2018.

I'll always remember back in late 2023 Seoul Metro's S-Bahn/RER, L1, got extended 20km north to Yeoncheon on a rebuilt partly single-track re-alignment of the Gyeongwon Line. The cost of the project? ~27 million INT$/km.

It's interesting that, in many cases, the Dutch opt to put bus lanes along wide suburban arterials on a lateral alignment rather than in an axial position. I guess that this simplifies a lot signal management by reducing the number of conflicting movements and reducing ped crossing to a few secs

In 1972 there are cars parked to the left of the street, including partially on the footway, leaving a narrow road and people walking on the narrow footway to the right. Today, all car parking has gone, there is some outdoor seating and due to the removal of through motor traffic the road is dominated by pedestrians

A Bright Idea for Road Safety: Traffic Light Timing Cities that adjust stoplight cycles to emphasize safety can curb dangerous driving without racking up big costs or triggering pushback from motorists.

In @bloomberg.com, I argued that traffic lights are a street safety solution that’s hiding in plain sight

At minimal cost, cities can adjust them to slow speeders, protect pedestrians, and avoid dangerous turns.

Pushback from drivers is rare; they may not even notice.

‘provinces often act as isolated islands rather than interlinked regions that can work together to ensure supplies. This is inefficient and will probably lead to a lot of redundant capacity and stranded assets.’

Before (2024) / After (2025) the pedestrianization of Pont d'Iéna, Paris 16. Before that, tourists taking selfies in front of the Eiffel Tower had to go in the middle of the wide lanes of general traffic. Now they are in a pedestrian zone and just have to cross a slow bus lane (20 kph = 12 mph).

Before (2012) / After (2025) the bus and bike lanes on Pont de l'Alma, Paris 7. Both created in 2020. Note that the 2012 sign has five direction symbols (Left / Left-Ahead / Ahead / etc), meaning that not so long before the bridge had five general traffic lanes ! And most probably no bike paint then

Exclusive: Eye-catching 25-story complex planned for waterfront site in wealthy S.F. neighborhood A developer has filed plans to develop a unique 25-story apartment complex where a Safeway grocery store sits in a wealthy neighborhood in San Francisco.

Final boss SF Safeway redevelopment has dropped.

This one, a twin-towered, 25-story project on the Marina waterfront, is sure to be the most controversial.

The location and design hark back to the Fontana Towers that sparked SF's "anti Manhattanization" movement in the 60s.

Their Laurentides bus network redesign has been out for a while, while the STM hasn't started any public outreach for the West Island yet ⬇️
