There are pretty significant limitations on how dev mode works, including what software you can run and what system resources it has access to. Microsoft can also just sever your access to it at any time (and they have!)

That's still quite a leap from what's being discussed w/r/t the "next xbox"

If you think sony is dumb enough to have not read the direction of the market and put themselves in a position where they'd have to set billions of dollars on fire for a system that won't sell, i don't know what else to say here.

Because it's a factor in determining which games will and won't be funded in the future. I play video games, and so i have an interest in knowning which games will and won't be funded in the future. Same reason i follow box office numbers.

And a company like sony that is clearly invested in the playstation brand will wait that out, especially if they already have 100M+ PS5 owners who are still buying software and generating that revenue.

There is no need to rush out a system that will not sell. It's not more complicated than that

Right but the steam deck is a piece of a platform with 130M+ monthly users. It's been over a decade since xbox had an install base even half that big, and this new xbox branded pc will be lucky to do 10M lifetime

I don't think they're going to make "xbox games" anymore after the series. This new machine is just gonna be backward compatible through a virtualizer and then play windows pc games that they continue to sell through the microsoft store
