Increasingly feeling like marathon will be successful enough to get past its launch, maintain a player base, and convince other studios to keep making failed competitors, but it will somehow still underperform financially for sony and lead to more layoffs, which feels like a worst case scenario.

I wish i understood the mind of people who get engaged by these games. The art design is great, I'd love to see it in something strictly PvE w/ an actual narrative, but i just don't get the appeal of doing gaas weekly challenges for cutscene "rewards"

That's a complete non sequitur as it relates to the OP (miyazaki objecting to a bluepoint bloodborne remake) and the two separate topics you pivoted to (the artistic merits of crash bandicoot and neil druckmann, respectively), but thanks for sharing your opinions on uncharted and the last of us.

For sure. Sony, under competent management, could have found something for bluepoint to do after their support work on ragnarok that would have been profitable. But they don't seem to care about profitable, only "massively successful."

I played it cause i had game pass at the time and felt the need to finish it. It's maybe something i would have got for $20 on greatest hits back in the day and then sold back to gamestop. I got zero interest in dlc. Id hasn't put out a great game in close to a decade now.

I agree with the original point that sony should do more with its back catalog but those would probably need to be things they build (very) small teams for or be willing to contract out to another studio. I know stuff like ape escape has a lot of love but i suspect its sales potential is limited 2/2

The only game in the franchises being mentioned here that might be greenlit based on austin labor costs would be a jak 1 remake, but i suspect druckmann would try and block that and sony wants to keep his ego in check like they do miyazaki's. 1/

The sotc and demon's souls remakes were both critically acclaimed, sold millions of copies, and kept those games accessible to modern audiences. The hate they both get for "artistic liberties" is very much a Chronically Online Thing (no different than my gripes with the crash trilogy remakes tbh)

And especially considering how saturated this franchise has been. Other then like COD and Yakuza, has any other non-sports franchise put out more games in the past decade? (even limiting to the RPG titles)
