You don't need to, you dingbat, it's already permanently installed on the cartridge, which is a combination of hardware and software that you are physically installing upon a successful connection to the host computer. What the fuck do have such a hardon for with arguing this. End of line.

The cartridge chip set is the local disk. Go learn something.

Also if you knew anything about vintage computing you'd remember that home computers also used program cartridges. That they were immediately executable is besides the point, unless you like being inane.

You're literally holding a portable theater-aspect ratio high definition screen and can play (a lot of) gaming's best from the 80s, 90s, and early 21st with blistering performance, as well as many heavy hitters from the Xbox 360/PS3 and even PS4 era. Gamers are some of the most spoiled brats ever.

Every time you put a ROM cartridge in, you're installing hardware and software. Installs on home computing gaming is decades old.

I happen to agree with the post and prefer the old systems, but let's not act like everything that came about with the PSWii60 era was some shocking new twist.

Shenmue is the tipping point. It's as much open world sandbox as I can stand any more and even then I think the game wore out its welcome in parts (disc three dragged once you got a job). But overall it makes one hel of an expansion pack for Hang-On and Space Harrier.

How about Baku Baku Animal for Saturn? It's adorable and definitely breezier to play than shoving those boxes around in a Mega Driven warehouse. 😄

Playing Shenmue after the deluge of modern open world sandbox RPGs was difficult at first because they've burned me out on the genre, but as I let my 1990s brain take over I think I got it, to the extent it was possible. Shenmue is perhaps the ultimate interactive time capsule for 80s Japan.
