Our extended forecast is bonkers, but if it pans out, we should have a nice cold spell for ATV runs and our final race of the season!

We’re stuck in that late winter thaw-freeze cycle and our trails are a bit too icy to safely run. A big warmup starts today through next week, so hopefully we can get some runs in soon!

It’s been about a month since Blitz got injured, and he’s finally showing substantial improvement. He still limps here and there, but he’s walking on all four legs more often than not. I’m hopeful he’ll get in some short ATV runs this spring.

I would like to say Midterms may help us but unfortunately despite the people telling me he can't openly interfere in an election I feel he is going to try his best to do just that. And Congress will allow it.

We took a short break from running post-Canada trip. Our trail at home was a bit dicey and we didn’t have the energy to drive to train. We got more snow on Wednesday, so we’ll be back in business today to break trail and soak up the last bit of sledding season.

For anyone curious, this is what Willow’s lump looks like. It’s easier to see with her fresh poodle cut 😆 but it’s barely noticeable under fur. It’s been this size since fall 2024 when we first started investigating it, so fingers crossed it doesn’t change.

Also worth noting? Her foot hasn't really been bothering her at all. She'll be 11 this summer, and I expect she'd only be joining us for short spring/fall runs anyway. So as long as she's comfortable and happy, I won't consider her a surgery candidate that could leave her permanently lame.

The good-ish news is that a non-diagnostic sample is _often_ a fatty lipoma. We saw this with Hubble's lump last year, which is absolutely a lipoma, but the vet couldn't get anything to stick to a slide to confirm.

Willow’s foot sample was inconclusive, which we knew could happen.

Options: surgery to remove/test, which could cause more damage than the lump, IF a surgeon would even attempt it. Aspirate and try again. Or just keep an eye on it.

Opting to monitor it & retest at her annual exam this summer.

Thank you! It was about 4 hours round trip including a burst of whiteout snow on the way home, and a stressful drive through downtown Ithaca trying to find gas. 🙄 We should hear back from the lab tomorrow.

Today Willow went to Cornell to follow up on her ongoing foot saga (small swelling, holds it up on her toes after exertion). Radiographs and ultrasound show it’s not an injury, but appears to be a small mass in between tendons. Sent an aspirate to the lab; hoping it’s a benign lipoma.
