As Trump Targets Research, Scientists Share Grief and Resolve to Fight
At a conference in Boston, the nation’s scientists commiserated and strategized as funding cuts and federal layoffs throw their world into turmoil.
"After WW II, officials understood need to support fundamental research, the kind that doesn’t lead right away to marketable innovations. But such work is expensive. So universities & the federal government agreed to split costs. Now you’re seeing feds trying to walk away from that,” Dr. Thorp said.

• Traditional introductory courses in history and philosophy of science (HPS)
• Structured as introduction to history and philosophy of science as academic disciplines, often focussed on key concepts, positions and theories, how they differ, and how they have developed as seen from within these disciplines
• Goal to intrigue and attract students and to prepare them for futher studies in HPS
• Proficiency in history and philosophy of science
• Courses in history and philosophy of science for aspiring scientists
• Structured instead around challenges that scientists commonly face and which call historical and/or philosophical reflection

About to head to the airport for this. I will argue for a more constant dialogue between history & policy among other perspectives. In 2020, the Trump administration was touting its focus on DEI even as the seeds of the current campaign were being sown with anti-CRT. Clearly another era.
