Two of my all time favorites for sure, and two that are virulently disliked by a lot of folks, yet couldn’t possibly be more fitting for their respective shows (for good & ill).

At best you’ve got good memory or specific skills, but actual intelligence is working through thoughts, something you cannot outsource.

And if your process is writing, that can be pretty awful writing, and that’s fine.

The process is the point. The journey is the destination and all that. 🤷‍♀️

You don’t need to be able to write well to be smart, but you do need to have a comparable process, and a lack of any sort of process of that kind means that you’re not intelligent, no way around it.

It does sometimes, but at least as often, and for the purposes of this discussion, far more importantly, being good at the output is almost entirely disconnected from getting the most out of writing, which is the process of intelligence writ large.

Then come back and grapple with the fact that good writing is not one thing, and in fact a lot of “good writing” is bad writing and a lot of “bad writing” is good writing, depending on context and goals.

Being good at writing doesn’t mean good at making great written output.

Were you ever so affected by a piece of filmmaking that it made you cry? I don't mean the emotional component of the scene, I mean things like shot choice, cinematography editing, music. When everyone involved is so on their game that the magic of the moment makes you tear up?

I made an anti-AI post on LinkedIn and the people angry or defensive all have Visionary or Founder as their listed role, and everyone agreeing with me has a real job. Amazing how that is.

Someone put me as a reference… just my name and phone number, on a form they filled in with ChatGPT, and the “ai” added a list of places I’ve worked (all correct) with job titles (none correct) - which made for an interesting reference call.

It’s garbage, and dangerously so.

I cannot express how much I loathe quackery, but at least I can challenge specific nonsense and get my dad to not drink battery acid just because yummypoop dot tv said so.

ChatGPT lies, but that’s not surprising. Part of why it can even hope to help people cheat on tests or whatever is that it lies distinctly each time. Made to order non-repeat lies.

People who peddle quackery can’t be thrilled by this the same way they are with good SEO. ChatGPT might say anything.
