(HACK-uh) Posts are my thoughts, which means at least half of them are about The Boss. Ph.D. Candidate at UW-Madison studying topological photonics I’m essentially a physicist with the fun and charisma of a chemist. And an ego obviously of a physicist.
I don’t know who this Count Owen Tu guy is

15.10.2025 01:01 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0It’s funny when tiny houses are touted as a solution to homelessness. What if you took those tiny houses, connected them and stacked them so that you could fit more in the same plot? Then everyone could have their own place! The French called those “appartements” from the Italian “appartamenti”

14.10.2025 22:10 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0This is true and people will (rightly) be upset that it is, but it’s reality. A good thing about focusing on this is that animals get the benefit of any doubt. You’ll never dig up enough dirt to smear a dog and claim it deserved to be shot. Even a video of an active mauling gets the *person* blamed

This is beside the point, but it does not “beg the question”; Sean Duffy actually means “raises the question”.

A screenshot of a Bluesky post from @/oldenoughtosay.com (madeline boOoOoOodent) It says: “the answer to the trolley problem is not to pick who to sacrifice, it's to dismantle the system that led to an unsafe trolley crossing. if any part of your morality strategy involves picking a group to let die on a hill, throw the entire strategy out. it's wrong.”
For future reference:
08.10.2025 20:07 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Saying “we should sacrifice [group] so we win elections” is not a trolley problem. You created a trolley problem from it, hence why I’m being a purist in your mentions instead of his.
08.10.2025 20:00 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0None of your thread disputes your original statement that the “solution” to the trolley problem is to simply not have a trolley problem.
08.10.2025 19:55 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Saying “the trolley problem shouldn’t exist, so I’m not going to engage with it” is just extra rationalizing around not pulling the lever!
08.10.2025 19:52 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0I hate these kinds of comments because that’s not what the trolley problem is about and I’m a trolley problem purist.
The trolley problem is, at some levels, about whether actively choosing to minimize harm (but still cause it) is better than passively allowing more harm to happen

07.10.2025 22:31 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0It’s so demoralizing to repeatedly see “democrats and republicans are the same” on social media and then encounter the tiniest bit of news that completely proves the opposite.
07.10.2025 22:17 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0One thing I’ve been wrestling with is how researchers, especially in environmental and medical fields, promote their work even if they know the promotion could cause harm or mislead the public. In an ideal world it wouldn’t matter because all knowledge is good. But in the real world?
07.10.2025 22:05 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0It’s concerning to me that this is a regular thing for medical researchers to experience:
