This is true and people will (rightly) be upset that it is, but it’s reality. A good thing about focusing on this is that animals get the benefit of any doubt. You’ll never dig up enough dirt to smear a dog and claim it deserved to be shot. Even a video of an active mauling gets the *person* blamed

For future reference:

Saying “we should sacrifice [group] so we win elections” is not a trolley problem. You created a trolley problem from it, hence why I’m being a purist in your mentions instead of his.

None of your thread disputes your original statement that the “solution” to the trolley problem is to simply not have a trolley problem.

Saying “the trolley problem shouldn’t exist, so I’m not going to engage with it” is just extra rationalizing around not pulling the lever!

I hate these kinds of comments because that’s not what the trolley problem is about and I’m a trolley problem purist.

The trolley problem is, at some levels, about whether actively choosing to minimize harm (but still cause it) is better than passively allowing more harm to happen

Zach Bryan featured Bruce Springsteen on his 2024 track “Sandpaper” and this summer did an “Atlantic City” cover with Bruce at a concert. I can’t necessarily give Bruce credit, but I will say that he should be trying to make more musicians woke.

It’s so demoralizing to repeatedly see “democrats and republicans are the same” on social media and then encounter the tiniest bit of news that completely proves the opposite.

One thing I’ve been wrestling with is how researchers, especially in environmental and medical fields, promote their work even if they know the promotion could cause harm or mislead the public. In an ideal world it wouldn’t matter because all knowledge is good. But in the real world?

It’s concerning to me that this is a regular thing for medical researchers to experience:

It’s extremely unfair for my allergies to be this bad considering it was 80 degrees last week
