Bentham is just down the road from me, and there’s so much great studio pottery in the area, along with Ingleton and Wensleydale. There are plenty of other potters around as well. I think the long, wet, cold weather up here encourages itβ€”there’s nothing like a warm studio to hide away in.

The sheer amount of plastic decorations and seasonal tat that shops are full of as we move seamlessly from Halloween to Christmas makes me so anxious. Where do people put this stuff after? Surely they dump most of it. It’s getting worse not better

Can I suggest an Alt text: Only known photo of a potter with the patience to wait until the kiln has fully cooled before unloading it. (not wearing gloves or using the first thing to hand)

I didn't even *want* to lean on the barrier until I saw this cool guy doing it

So much unnecessary plastic in the world. We've been conditioned for years by petrochemical capitalists to value mass-produced things designed to fail. Bring on the arts and crafts renaissance!

No one likes paying taxes, but the idea that you get what you pay for is often lost. Convoluted systems that need overhauling, and the perception that taxes are wasted, don’t help either. A simpler, more transparent system would be a good start.

I’ve never understood why taxes are always framed negatively. For example, employers complain about NI increases, but why not report it as 'employers unhappy about contributing to social, education, and health benefits for their employees and families'? Taxes collected and spent well benefit us all.

While the typos are fun, some of us are happy to avoid the BBC news. It's really gone so far down hill in recent years. What is the collective term for a grouos of journalists that falls into a biased, misogynistic funk anyway?

Synthesia is not a cheap license. It's been steadily getting better over the last year. What will Adobe charge? I can see it being added to the standard CC package.

I have no idea what labour stands for anymore. What I do know is that a massive majority is being wasted. Ineffective and disappointing.

To be fair the parks have very little real power and the power they do have is spent telling people that they can't develop in any way, sustainable or not. All while lording over vast areas of barren monoculture that sheep farmers maintain. No young people only old retirees.

OBAMA: It's fair to say that 80% of the world's problems involve old men hanging on who are afraid of death and insignificance, and they won't let go. They build pyramids, and they put their names on everything. They get very anxious about it.

It arrived in one piece and it's being put to work regularly. It's my current favourite of the collection. Which as a thrower and as someone who's only ever bought two hand built pots before, is a great compliment. Thanks Carol - it's beautiful 😍

Rising tide of voters warm to climate scepticism
Oliver Wright Policy Editor

Adam Vaughan Environment Editor
The number of Britons who think the dangers of global warming have been exaggerated has jumped by more than 50 per cent in the past four years, research for The Times reveals.

One in four voters believe that concerns about climate change are not as justified as scientists have said, against a backdrop of public concern at the cost of the government's net zero policies.

Less than a third of the public (30 per cent) are in favour of banning the sale of new petrol and diesel cars, down from 51 per cent in 2021. Only 16 per cent of voters said they would be prepared to pay higher gas bills to encourage the switch to electricity.

Experts said the findings showed that growing climate scepticism among mainstream politicians in Britain and the US was cutting through with voters and the broad consensus on climate action was breaking down.
"Climate change is being politicised in the UK] in the same way that has been done in the United States," said Professor Wouter Poortinga, an environmental psychologist at Cardiff Uni-versity.

"If you have Kemi Badenoch standing up saying that we're going to drill, baby, drill, that will have a polaris-ing effect."
The research, in collaboration with YouGov and the opinion consultancy Public First, compared public sentiment on climate change today with a study done by The Times in 2021.

There is concern at the top of Labour that its climate change policies could cost it votes at the next election. Nigel Farage, the Reform leader, has called for net zero policies to be scrapped.

How pleased The Times, Tories/Reform and their fossil fuel friends must be that, together, they are melting people’s critical faculties down into mush and persuading them to vote against their own interests in favour of those who couldn’t give less of a shit about them or their future.

Reform UK, which has a grand total of four MPs, was just given an uninterrupted platform for an hour and a half on the BBC and Sky News channels, in order to talk about its plans for mass deportations

When was the last time the Greens (with four MPs) or the Lib Dems (with 72) were given the same?
