It is fucking insane that we had a decade of people complaining about the dangers of cancel culture, and now literally hundreds of thousands of people are being purged from government jobs for ideological reasons, but that is not cancel culture.

In America, the people most enthusiastic about institutionalizing more people are usually the people most opposed to funding or regulating institutions or providing due process to the involuntarily institutionalized. So, business as usual.

Crime is an acknowledged genre of novel, like SF/F or Romance or Western, and it's a shibboleth for some contemporary/literary fiction writers that genre is easier/does not take as much skill to write, and is not as formally challenging. I believe the genre response to this is, awww, okay, honey
