Our preprint is now live! We have sequenced the genomes of three psyllid species. These insects pests transmit devastating plant diseases like 'zebra chip' in potatoes and 'carrot yellows' in carrots. πŸ₯•

Grateful to the attendees of #ukvbd2024 who voted myself and @gseddonroberts.bsky.social as the best flash talk, and best full talk respectively in the Diversity and Genomics session!

Had a great time at #ukvbd2024 in Liverpool, presenting a flash talk on my PhD work engineering vitellogenin-Cas9 chimeras for targeted gene editing in aphids.

I've started putting together a starter pack of all the Norwich Bioscience folks on Bluesky. It's very much a work in progress still, so please point me towards all the folks I've missed!

I guess it's time to reintroduce myself:

I'm Jay. I study the ecology and evolution of plant-insect interactions using a combination of omics approaches and field experimentation. I'm especially interested in how toxic plants in the nightshade family have co-evolved with specialist herbivores.

We're happy to present a pre-print from the Hogenhout lab (@saskiahogenhout.bsky.social), describing how a family of proteases in aphid oral secretions suppress plant immunity.

We’re delighted to share our latest preprint from the Hogenhout lab (@saskiahogenhout.bsky.social) on the molecular mechanisms on plant-aphid interactions. Here we show how the aphid Mp10 effector protein acts as a local anaesthetic to suppress the plant perception of aphid attack

Hello Bluesky! I'm a final year PhD candidate at the John Innes Centre, working on CRISPR tools in Hemiptera, specifically focusing on aphids and whiteflies! Currently writing up. I'm interested in Plant-Pathogen-Insect interactions, and insect lifecycles and reproductive mechanisms! πŸͺ²πŸ¦‹πŸ¦Ÿ
