The problem is a lot of times, they're not stealing food to eat or survive, they're coming in, loading up on big ticket items like meat, and then selling them. I work at a grocery store, and they just walk out the front door because they know nobody can stop them, pepper spraying workers.

Please, even if you don't CARE if genAI is used for something like this, at the very least understand that actors were striking with genuine concerns and that Mihoyo, who just last month posted job applications for opportunities to work on their games using AI, do not have their protections in mind.

So far the fans have once again moved the goal posts from "that is an absurd concern, it could never happen" to "well this is probably just regular text to speech" (ignoring the minor jarring inflection changes) and "so long as the actor is compensated it's fine"

There is no evidence of the latter.

Several months ago, actors made it clear that they were withholding work from Genshin Impact because of a lack of basic AI protections

Hoyo fans told them it would/could never be an issue

Last night, Hoyo posted several official videos promoting Genshin's new mode

Here's what the VO sounds like.

They saw it that way because as soon as they learned the Hoyo strikes were something actors were voluntarily doing - because of the threat of AI - it "didn't count" to them, so they could go back to playing their gacha and supporting their oomphies.

THEIR support was performative.
