While Nebraska families have said NO to privatization before, Gov. Pillen is moving forward with vouchers anyway. Let’s raise our voices by πŸ“£ πŸ“³ by calling the Governor and your Senator, and joining a Community Conversation meeting later this month to stand together for public schools!

Hello. Yes, we believe that the 2022 ballot initiative to increase the minimum wage should be upheld as voters approved. However, our mailer has been focused on the 2024 ballot initiatives that aim to increase economic prosperity for children and their families.

The cloture motion on LB3, this year's "winner-take-all" bill, failed to clear the 33-vote threshold. The vote was 31-18.

Because of partisan politics, this issue is never officially over. Regardless, we have a lot of thank-yous to share this evening. #neleg

Tell your #neleg senator Nebraskans want a minimum wage that values our labor – regardless of age – AND ensures that wages do not once again fall behind cost of living increases.

It’s time for our lawmakers to respect the will of Nebraska voters! πŸ”— bit.ly/NO_258

#NLeg has a responsibility to the taxpayers to implement Express Lane Eligibility (ELE). If passed LB 283, the #NELeg will be voting to remove barriers for Nebraska’s children to access the quality healthcare and services they need.

ELE has been proven to be a successful approach for significantly enrolling & providing care to children in other states:

For example: Louisiana has experienced tremendous results. Prior to ELE, it was about $116 to process applications. Now, the cost is $12-15 per application.

As a nation, we require every child to receive an education. Research, such as from the USDA’s Economic Research Service, has shown that universal meal programs significantly reduce food insufficiency & create positive associations with diet quality, food security, & academic performance.

Next: #LB14 adopts the Hunger-Free Schools Act, which is revolutionary for our education system. This bill aims to provide all students - public and private - with free school breakfast/lunches & reimburse school districts for the costs associated with this program.

@hollandinstitute.bsky.social polling has consistently demonstrated that the majority of Nebraskans have never wanted to use taxpayer dollars to subsidize private and charter schools. Polling is representative of all Nebraskans - rural & urban.

We oppose #LB427, which would require the State Treasurer to establish an educational savings account for students. While we agree public tax dollars should support public schools, there is very minimal oversight when it goes to private schools.
