He is 10! I think he is just lately falling in love with long stories, especially ones with pictures or that we can watch a movie of after reading. I’m not sure how or if he visualizes a story, but I think it is different than what I do. I would be so pleased for him to enjoy rich stories!

I want to let him read but be better prepared and way more intentional and available than my parents were to be a safe adult if things are confusing or hurt his heart and he needs context, reassurance, etc.

Some things are just uncomfortable and that’s good for us!

I read a lot I shouldn’t have and want to allow him space to do the same because I think that’s crucial to development, but I also want to be able to talk to him about what’s in stories, and in this case just know, myself, because what I remember was sad and he’s a very sensitive kid who holds on 😭♥️

We’ve had few windows to chaptered stories, and I’ve been as thorough about them as I could think to be, but him just poking at a book with no existing “known” quality is new and cool as fucccccck, so I hope it feels like something we could read together or I could give him.

I’m reading His Dark Materials (I have it as one giant paperback, I’m still on the first book), and left it on the couch last night. This morning kiddo was curious about it! Idk what’s in the series and I’d like to read it before sharing it with him, but very very very excited he seemed keen!

Cannot believe a family would get a dog and surrender her when she got scared, but I won’t lie, I’m glad they did!!!!! We love her so much! She is a sweet, super lovey cat and we are beyond delighted. I missed the warm weight of a cat on my lap while reading more than I realized. 😭
