Meanwhile, the CEO took eye watering funds from its offshore parent โ undisclosed in the annual report.
Iโve written to demand answers.
๐ชดGreat to visit Horticap for the launch of their new electric mini bus.
๐ชThey do fantastic work supporting disabled adults with structured training in all areas of gardening.
โ๏ธ Their cafe and garden centre open for the public - so do pop along to help support their work.
๐ Constituents told me the final Leeds train arrived with too little time to catch the last #1 bus to Knaresborough.
๐ฌ I raised this with Harrogate Bus Company. It has been agreed the last bus will now depart at 12:25 am, allowing a smoother connection home. ๐๐
๐Iโm taking part in Yorkshire Cancer Researchโs Big Birthday Brew โ a week of tea parties to celebrate their 100th anniversary & raise funds for their life-saving work.
๐ฐ Iโll be hosting a bake sale at Christ Church, Harrogate, 13 August 12โ2pm. Come along and enjoy a slice of cake!
โปI visited Resurrected Bites to see how theyโre cutting food waste, tackling food poverty, & reducing loneliness.
๐Community projects like this are great but shouldnโt be filling gaps left by the government.
๐คIโll keep pushing for a fairer, more compassionate welfare system that supports everyone.
Itโs about doing what is right ๐งก

01.08.2025 20:04 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Iโve written, alongside colleagues, to the Minister for Women & Equalities about the appointment of the new EHRC Chair.
We share the concerns that both the JCHR and WEC had during the pre-appointment hearing.
The EHRC urgently needs to rebuild trust with all communities.
Today, I had the pleasure of visiting Claro Enterprises โ a brilliant local charity supporting people with mental health conditions through hands-on work and training.
It was also great to recognise Dr. Bruce Willoughby for his incredible fundraising run from Landโs End to John OโGroats.
๐Happy Yorkshire Day!
๐ฉตThereโs nowhere quite like Yorkshire, and itโs a real privilege to represent part of this fantastic region & its people.
๐ชBeing the only Yorkshire Lib Dem MP, Iโll keep working hard to stand up for our communities and push for the investment and support our regionย deserves.
๐ถ Out knocking on doors in Oatlands last night, a really positive response.
๐ฃ People commenting we are the only ones who still come round when there are no imminent elections.

Lib Dem MP & member of the joint human rights select committee, @tomgordonld.bsky.social says he has โserious concernsโ over the Governmentโs choice of Chair for the Equality and Human Rights Commission as she failed to demonstrate โsufficient understandingโ of issues including race and disability.
01.08.2025 06:51 โ ๐ 10 ๐ 8 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0This week, I spent two days at Harrogate Homeless Project, seeing first-hand the work they do to support homeless people & rough sleepers.
I spent time at their hostel and day centre, visited their new Starbeck property currently under renovation, and even took part in a pool tournament!
๐It was great to join students, families, and staff at Henshawโs College to celebrate their graduation.
๐Henshawโs does incredible work supporting young people with SEND.
๐ชIโll keep pushing to make sure SEND education gets the funding it needs, so colleges like this one can continueย toย thrive.
Constituents have been in touch about blocked drains across Knaresborough, especially after recent heavy rain.
๐Iโve written to Environmental Services urging action, including a full review of gully maintenance, updates on the delayed flood report, and support for areas repeatedly hit by flooding.
๐Last week in Parliament, I called for tougher regulation of social media giants.
Tech firms can't keep marking their own homework โ we need laws that tackle harmful content and protect users.
As a member of the Science, Innovation & Technology Committee Iโll keep pushing for this.
๐คGreat to catch up with Mike and the brilliant team at Energy Oasis during the Great Yorkshire Show.
๐We talked about green hydrogen in agriculture โ and its huge potential to help both farmers and the environment.
๐ Looking forward to supporting their important work going forward.
Scrapping First Past the Post for mayoral elections is progress โ but it's frustrating the Government wonโt extend the same fairness to general elections.
๐With strong public and MP support for PR, I pressed the Minister on why itโs not being used for both.
๐ตGreat to attend the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival in Harrogate โ the worldโs longest-running celebration of crime fiction.
๐ Weโre incredibly lucky to have world-class cultural events on our doorstep.
๐ญ Iโll keep backing the local arts & culture that make our communityย thrive.
A specialist school in Bilton, planned to open last September to meet growing demand for autism places in North Yorkshire, has faced many delays โ with no confirmed opening date.
Iโm pleased to have secured a meeting with the Minister to get answers & push for clarity on when the school will open.
The Govt has finally scrapped Ofwat โ something weโve long called for.
The water industry is broken - sewage in rivers, soaring bills, and no accountability.
Iโll keep fighting for clean waterways, protected communities, & a new regulator that puts the environment and public before profit.
The government says it wants to "rebuild trust in our democracy".
This needs to start with giving everyone an equal vote.
Thank you to @tomgordonld.bsky.social, Sarah Olney, Chris Law, @alexsobel.co.uk @drscottarthurmp.bsky.social and @shockatadam.bsky.social for raising this in Parliament.
๐ถ Popped by the Bilton Community Centre Open Day this weekend โ a brilliant chance to catch up with the best of Bilton and enjoy some fantastic tunes from the talented Coconut Workshop singers.
๐The weather wasnโt on our side, but it didnโt stop anyone enjoyingย theย day!
Today, I stood up for our local hospitality sector โ echoing concerns from business owners, warning that soaring costs risk closures.
From rises in NICs to VAT, pressure is mounting.
Hospitality is a cornerstone of our local economy. Iโll keep fighting for the support this vital sector needs.
In Parliament, I raised concerns about a ยฃ90k cut to Harrogate Collegeโs adult skills budget by the new Labour-led Combined Authority.
I made clear that if devolution is to work, it must be backed by funding, so our communities do not miss out.
Last week, I led a debate calling on the Government to scrap the unfair peak-time restrictions on disabled bus passes. Disabilities exist before 9:30am, and so should support.
๐Learn more about this issue and the action Iโm taking toย changeย itย here:
In Parliament, I stood up for local postmaster Andrew Hart and highlighted the disruption caused by last yearโs Knaresborough Post Office closure.
Following this, Iโve secured a Ministerial meeting to ensure lessons are learned and communities like ours arenโt left without vital services again.
๐จLeaseholders are being hit with unexpected, unaffordable charges by freeholders โ often without warning or say.
๐ฃIn Parliament, I challenged the Minister on what the govt is doing to stop this exploitation.
โฐLeaseholders deserve transparency, fairness, & a say in how their homes are managed.
โฐItโs time for Ministers to stop passing the buck to overstretched councils and use their power to scrap this unfair restriction โ so we can build a transport system thatโs fair, accessible, and worksย forย everyone.
