Spirited crowd at the Legends in Wyandotte County, Kansas (KCK). It was moving and for a little while, gave me hope.

Good crowd!

29.09.2025 23:58 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0It's aster time! I have never seen so many monarchs, bumble bees and other pollinators in my yard. I had 6 monarchs on my New England aster at one time! Maybe they are on their migration. Anyway, shows how important late season natives are. ๐ฑ #nativeplants, #pollinators
29.09.2025 18:34 โ ๐ 107 ๐ 19 ๐ฌ 3 ๐ 0Same. Had the swamps at my last house and there were so many. Can't get the swamps to grow in my new, drier, yard.

04.09.2025 21:08 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0A buckeye butterfly feeds on my late season liatris. I can't remember what I planted, but I think it's aspera. ๐ฑ #nativeplants

Inter-species kerfuffle: behind the eastern tiger swallowtail is a monarch battling for the same zinnia. After a brief dust up in the air, they took turns feeding on the flower. ๐ฑ#pollinators
20.08.2025 01:18 โ ๐ 27 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0A fritillary of some kind feeds on my Red Whisker Clammyweed, Polanisia dodecandra, on a hot Kansas day. This is my first time planting clammyweed. It's an annual but I have the feeling I'll be seeing it for years to come. ๐ฑ #nativeplants #pollinators

27.06.2025 21:45 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Cool! We just finished One of Ours which I liked better than I thought I would. Was especially interested after visiting the WWI museum in KC.

20.06.2025 06:03 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0So sorry. I only have any because I used (green) chicken wire to protect them. The green wire makes it look a little less stupid.
19.06.2025 18:55 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0E. angustifolia, narrow leaf CF, is the best for my area- hotter and dryer and they're shorter so they fit in an urban landscape better. I first saw these in the Loess Hills north of Council Bluffs, IA.
18.06.2025 20:57 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Purple coneflowers are my favorite. Here are 2 of the 4 species I have: Echinacea pallida -pale PCF - and Echinacea paradoxa - yellow coneflower. This year I have successfully saved most of my PCFs from the ravenous groundhog. ๐ #nativeplants๐ฑ
18.06.2025 18:09 โ ๐ 50 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 3 ๐ 0I remember it as something used to make one vomit- so for poisoning. However, I just researched it and the medicine comes from a different plant grown in South America. I was hoping it would make the groundhog sick because it's a rodent and I don't think rodents can throw up. Darn
15.06.2025 17:26 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Gillenia stipulata, American ipecac, is blooming now, though the plant is known more for its striking fall foliage color. I thought it might be ruined when the groundhog chewed it down this spring, but he actually helped it be less leggy. ๐ฑ #nativeplants
