Earlier this year, my office asked for your input on where to allocate nearly $600k for traffic safety infrastructure. The results are in, and here's what we learned from over 300 responses from across the district:

We discussed the need for more affordable housing, safe and clean streets, new senior housing projects in District 5, and increased enforcement against drug dealing.

It was a delight to meet seniors from the Tenderloin and Chinatown at the monthly Community Tenants Meeting hosted by the Chinatown Community Development Center.

We owe this not only to Mr. Alexander and his family, but also to the seniors, immigrants, and children he served in our community.

Every strategy we implement brings us closer to a San Francisco where we can all live and serve without fear.

We remain committed to adapting and doing everything possible to protect our community. In the Tenderloin, we will continue to enforce our laws, and those who come to cause harm — to themselves or others — will be held accountable.

* Deployed beat officers on regular patrols in neighborhood hotspots

* Launched traffic restrictions to deter drug dealers from illegally parking

* Improved multiagency coordination and deployment in the neighborhood

His death is a direct result of the drug crisis in our streets, and honoring Mr. Alexander means our words must be met with action.
 
Together with SFPD and the Mayor's office, we are working on new strategies to deter and prevent crime. In just the last month, we have:

Mr. Alexander's passing reminds us that those who stand on the frontlines to serve in our city's most challenging conditions deserve protection, recognition, and support.

Urban Alchemy has served as a model for what community-based safety programs can look like when rooted in dignity and humanity, and are vital in complementing our city's public safety network.

Today, we stood shoulder to shoulder in the face of an unimaginable tragedy to honor the life of Urban Alchemy Practitioner, Joey Alexander, a man who was taken too soon by senseless gun violence — simply for being brave enough to serve our community.

This project wouldn’t be possible without Street Soccer, friends of Elm Alley, and advocacy from youth and community members. Special shout out to Scott Bravmann for encouraging our youth dream big and helping those dreams come to life.

It’s soccer take over in the Tenderloin! This weekend, I joined volunteers to help put in a turf soccer field by Elm Alley, creating a new outdoor space for community to play.

I have called the head of Urban Alchemy to express my support for their workers who are on our frontlines every day.

No one should ever have to face violence in our communities, and those who inflict harm on our residents will be held accountable.
