Remember that Donald Trump, Jr. is involved with both Polymarket & Kalshi β and the Trumpsβ social media company is launching its own prediction market.
Meanwhile, Trumpβs regulators have announced they will fight any state that attempts to regulate prediction markets.

The petition for a writ of certiorari is denied. JUSTICE
KAGAN would grant the petition for a writ of certiorari.
JUSTICE SOTOMAYOR, with whom JUSTICE JACKSON joins,
dissenting from denial of certiorari.
This case asks whether federal law prohibits the poorest
prisoners from splitting the $350 fee required to file a federal lawsuit when it allows everyone else to do so. The answer statutorily appears to be no. Because the decision below held otherwise and deepened a split among the Courts
of Appeals, the Court should grant the petition for a writ of
certiorari.
Petitioners Topaz Johnson and Ian Henderson were incarcerated at High Desert State Prison in California when
they filed this lawsuit in federal court. According to their
complaint, corrections officers forced them and a third prisoner to stand in filthy cages that reeked of urine and measured 2.5 feet by 2.5 feet. They alleged that the officers
forced them to stand in those cages for nearly nine hours
with their hands cuffed behind their backs.
By a 6β3 vote, SCOTUS refuses to review a judge-made rule that bars indigent prisoners from splitting the filing fee among themselves when filing a federal suitβeven though everyone else is allowed to split that fee. These defendants were allegedly tortured. www.supremecourt.gov/orders/court...

So, so instructive to compare media response to Afghanistan withdrawal -- months of hysterical garment-rending & catastrophizing, relentless criticism of the admin -- with the response to an unprovoked, unmotivated, illegal war of aggression, ie, "some critics say maybe Trump should have reasons."

This shit is so unbelievably deranged. One can only hope that we, as a species, somehow and despite our worst efforts make it to a point sometime in the future when our descendants can look back at us and be aghast at how aggressively stupid we were to let this all happen.

New SAVE Act Bills Would Still Block Millions of Americans From Voting
The βshow your papersβ requirement is an attack on the freedom to vote.
The SAVE Act would require American citizens to show documents like a passport or birth certificate to register to vote. Our research shows that more than 21 million Americans lack ready access to those documents. bit.ly/4rA2p4R

Remember: Donald Trump created this crisis. He walked away from the Iran nuclear deal that was working, promising a "better deal." He didn't deliver. He escalated, abandoned real diplomacy, and has now led us into a conflict that puts us all at risk.

SecDef Hegseth Announces Trans Scouts In Scouting America Will Be Outed, Segregated
The policy is the latest in a trend of organizations capitulating to Trump over transgender people.
1. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has announced that under a new deal with Scouting America, formerly Boy Scouts of America, trans scouts will be forcibly outed and segregated from peers of their gender.
The policy is the latest cruel capitulation.

The SAVE Act is Christian Nationalism in Action
Gendered Burdens and the Right to Vote
New from @pamherd.bsky.social at Can We Still Govern?:
The SAVE Act is a truly extreme voter suppression bill, but in ways that might surprise you. White Christian Nationalism is driving the bill more than a cynical focus on maximizing GOP vote share. π§΅

Clarence Thomas Just Struck Another Blow to Black Power
In his majority ruling in a sleeper case about mail delivery, Thomas opened the door to a new way for Republicans to suppress the Black vote.
In an overlooked decision this week, the Supreme Court ruled that the post office can refuse to deliver your mail, which is KIND OF SIGNIFICANT if you choose to mail your ballot.
To do this work, the anti-democracy wing turned to their favorite βblack friend,β Clarence Thomas.
