From a maintainer perspective, it's a fight you can't win. Solidity and Vyper have maybe a dozen truly active contributors over the year, most of them not FTEs. Either you spread yourself thin trying to maintain everything, or you end up dropping support for EVM versions needed in the future. 🫠

If required by another entity, what speaks against forking from an old version and continuing maintenance from there?
With the current lack of software diversity, I can imagine it’s a big challenge for maintainers of critical software to allocate their few resources correctly.

.. it just requires a lot of leg work and isn't an issue that engineering efforts can solve. As much as consumers need to change their thinking, we need to. Assuming we want everyone on board and talk to each other on equal terms.

OTOH, in this scenario, every slight UX improvement and reasonable abstraction we can achieve to make it easier for non-technical people to manage their data independently becomes a huge win.
