A bright blue cat with yellow-gold bits.
A bright blue car with a tiny bird on the side mirror.
I went with gas because I've seen too many videos of car batteries catching fire. I know it means I'm stuck to consuming oil, but it also means my house won't catch fire because the battery freaked out. (Again, Engineer husband.)
But honestly? I really love the Crosstrek.

Ok as someone who has been known to complain about how everyone has stopped using fewer and just says less for everything now and it drives me crazy, this made me chuckle

My husband is an Engineer, so he was up to date on which engines are failing, so no: Mini, Toyota, Chevy...
Subaru is, apparently, extremely reliable. Also not hugely expensive. And! The Crosstrek comes in colors, instead of only black, white, gray, silver.

The Mazda's dash-screen controls are so far back that I had to twist to reach them. The Honda was okay to sit in but the engine was sluggish (I shouldn't have to literally have the gas pedal on the floor to get up to freeway speed.)
The Impreza doesn't come with a spare tire. It's an add on.

When faced with this choice last year,I went with a Subaru Crosstrek Sport. I'm a small person and my previous car was a Geo Metro (really).
I also wanted to stay with the hatchback style. We test drove a bunch of cars from a range of companies.

I have a warm take: I think the Mission Impossible movies stopped being fun when the stakes got too big.

A pile of shredded cheese rests on pasta with small pork meatballs, cooked-down cherry tomatoes, and marinated artichoke hearts.
Another dinner, in the books. A pile of shredded cheese rests on pasta with small pork meatballs, cooked-down cherry tomatoes, and marinated artichoke hearts.
I make this frequently; it's easy, delicious, and inexpensive.

God I love that movie and yeah, there's weird stuff about diet/food/bodies in it several times. "Oh it's okay, there's no gluten in it" "one piece foundation garment"
(I do think to myself, sometimes, "There's a word for women like you, but it's not used outside a kennel!")

#AmWriting
I am a heavy outliner, and I often plan plot events out on an actual calendar. Google calendar is... available, but not really excellent for this purpose (my current series happens in 2022).
Does anyone out there have a good digital calendar they like? Tell me about it!

Can I choose which beers? Because I can drink a lot more of the super low abv ones than the higher alcohol content ones. Some are like non-sweet, but interestingly flavored, sodas.

My current flock of chickens is a little skittish, but have discovered that when I bend over with my hand out, it's probably holding BREAD OMG BREAD THE BEST THING EVER GIMME.
Now one of them keeps trying to stand under my feet, just in case there's more bread.

It's very tasty. I've been making variations of this for years; I love dark leafy greens in it, as well. It's a good way to use up small amounts of leftover stuff.

Today's first meal. Leftover rice with cooked onion, carrot and snow peas, and two sardines. Green onions in the rice and soy sauce on top.
All in a mottled blue ceramic bowl.
I've been taking Food Photos for years and I think it's time to start sharing.

Things I have learned about how patriarchy/misogyny affects science:
The thing about obligate cannibalism after mating with praying mantises? It's because male scientists thought male mantises would prefer slender mates, so they starved them.

One of the things I miss from my early years in fandom was the way writing groups were all super enthusiastic and everyone was excited to help. Sometimes that help was with, say, grammar, sometimes it was brainstorming, sometimes it was just quietly working together.
That's gone, now.
