#6 - Umamusume: Beginning of a New Era

I’ve been playing Umamusume for a while now and in the same way it’s proven itself to be a very impressive game, the movie also proves itself as capable of standing among greats. A surprisingly good story of overcoming yourself to reach new heights

Wanna just cap this off and say that despite my criticisms i did like the game. I know i get critical on here about stuff all the time but it’s because i love the art that goes into video games and i want it to keep improving

I do have to hate on the ending a little bit actually. Why do they say that you can never come back from being a dragon and then just Rauru and Sonia’s power is enough to change Zelda back?? Like dawg you did that so easily for free

I also don’t mind reference bait usually but directly ripping the skyward sword sound in the last cutscene AGAIN in this game after you already did it in botw makes it feel strange that there’s no actual communication with fi ever and the master sword doesn’t really get to participate in any way

I like that the Lightroots directly show you where all of the shrines on the land are, but it’s a very cool thing in theory, not in practice. Because now I’ve done 272 teleport points and for over 120 of them, i couldn’t see what was directly in front of me

The depths has so much cool design and neat shit laying around but by the time i lit the entire thing up i was SO burnt out being in there. It’d be one thing if it was just the depths that did this, but thunderhead isles and the desert also blinding you just makes the gimmick feel overdone

Now i have to address the elephant in the room. I think the depths could’ve been good. I really like exploring the depths, i think it’s really neat to see what it has to offer. Emphasis on to SEE!!! There’s like 4 different areas where the solution is just “blind link” and it’s so unfun

Also was it just me or do all of the weapons feel worse in this game? Fuse makes them stronger, sure, but having no pretty weapons to look at and having to finagle a fuse mid encounter because your last 3 weapons broke before the guy died felt so bad to me

From a gameplay design perspective, i like botw’s runes because it’s still some crazy stuff you can do, but you have to follow the rules of the world you exist in. You can’t just farm zonaite and then just craft a hoverboard with auto build to solve all your problems

To move on from the story, I’m really torn on whether i like the runes from botw or Totk more. One on hand, I loved Totk’s runes and had more fun with them overall, but i think the solution to the games annoying world being “don’t interact with it” is also a copout

The end of the game was straight up good, can’t hate on any of it they all went crazy on the beat it was so fucking fun

I just wish the story that had preceded it had a little more going for it

It’s just a weird attention to detail thing when in the same game i went to the lucky clover gazette only after doing all 152 shrines and then they make a point of saying “even though you’re wearing that weird getup, i still recognized you” when you wear the armor getting every shrine

The story chapters also want to have an order so bad. I got to the end of the game and they literally went
“WE NEED TO FIND THE FIFTH SAGE?”
“..wait, you already did that?”
“Oh and you found the master sword? I guess just go fight ganondorf now then”
IM WEARING THE MASTER SWORD, YOU CANT SEE IT??

The story chapters are still lame in this game. The new dungeons look very cool, but they don’t take long, they’re easy to do, and the rewards for doing them are also less impactful than the rewards in botw. [EXCEPT FOR TULIN THAT AIR GUST WAS SO BROKEN]

This being said, i am glad that they made you interact with the world more for puzzles rather than enter the shrine, then do puzzle. Felt much better across the board but i wish the reward for interaction was more interaction rather than just getting a topaz

The lack of rewards and i think around 1/3rd of the shrines being blessings made it very obvious that they just wanted to pad out the world rather than add content. I wish that a reward for doing a shrine was something more meaningful like an outfit piece tbh

Tulin is fine but i still prefer teba, and i find it weird that he gets replaced by his son when he’s the only one replaced, and when he tackled the same problems in botw. Like you already had the character doing the thing but changing out the character just felt so odd and out of place
