Blacked out and wrote 4.6k today. I say blacked out because even though I wrote every single word, I honestly can’t tell you what I wrote. I think I was possessed.

Okay today is two days post surgery and today was absolutely awful as far as recovery goes. The pain I can deal with, but the nausea is unbearable. I refuse to vomit with fresh abdominal incisions so I spent the day fighting for my life.

Gonna need this blanket for comfort during the next season of ghost files!

Which is to say that apparently each year I’m entitled to one unhinged blanket project.

Like they are both some of the sweetest people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. So kind even when things were rough and always so receptive and grateful. They were just very medically complex. And now they’re both back to walking independently and I’m just so, so, so unbelievably proud!

Between yesterday and today, I’ve had TWO of my previous patients stop by to visit me and show me how good they’re doing! Both of these amazing gentlemen were incredibly difficult cases but they worked so hard with me and BOTH of them came in walking completely independently! I cried both times.

Truly the older we get, the more the mundane things really matter. Which I think is actually kind of nice, that something so basic can bring us so much joy!

On Monday my new dishwasher is being installed and the level of excitement I have surrounding that is proof enough that I’m actually an adult now.

You are allowed to celebrate good things that are happening today: your birthday, a book coming out, new baby, new puppy, seeing your favorite piece of art in person, etc.

Joy is the knife that stabs into the heart of despair & apathy.

Feel your joys, big & small, & share them widely & loudly.

Honestly, it’s not owning a house or working at the hospital that makes me feel most adult. It’s having a dog. Like I am responsible for this other being. Completely and wholly responsible for him and his health. THAT makes me feel adult.

I’m actually so glad nano is over. I won and I enjoyed working on it so much, but I have so many other projects I was neglecting because all my free time went to my novel. So having the freedom to work on other things again feels great.
