SAPIENS to Cease Publication

This is really sad news. Sapiens was a fantastic medium to share, promote and diversify anthropology and the platform where many people (like me) learnt and developed skills in science communication. Times are tough, but Sapiens’ niche is now left empty ☹️ wennergren.org/article/sapi...

Mr. Reuveni's disbelief following the meeting with Bove is now a relic of a different time.
Overthe next three weeks, Mr. Reuveni was involved in three separate cases involving the legality
ofthe Administration's immigration removal operations under its newly implemented priorities
during which time he directly witnessed and reported:
β€’
DOJ officials undermining the rule of law by ignoring court orders;
DOJ officials presenting β€œlegal” arguments with no basis in law;
β€’
β€’
high-ranking DOJ and DHS officials misrepresenting facts presented before
courts; and
DOJ officials directing Mr. Reuveni to misrepresent facts in one ofthese cases in
violation of Mr.Reuveni's legal and ethical duties as an officer ofthe court.2.
22
Mr. Reuveni'sinternalreporting and ultimately his refusal to obey this illegal order directly
resulted in his suspension and termination.

Top Justice Department officials consistently lied to federal courts and ignored their orders as part of a willful campaign to deport migrants without due process. Just a shocking series of allegations, especially about Bove.

And Bove's Senate hearing is tomorrow. static01.nyt.com/newsgraphics...

β€œFacilitation” does not sanction the abrogation of habeas corpus through the transfer of custody to foreign detention centers in the manner attempted here. Allowing all this would β€œfacilitate” foreign detention more than it would domestic return.

Many key lines here, including:

"β€œFacilitation” does not permit the admittedly erroneous deportation of an individual to the one country’s prisons that the withholding order forbids and, further, to do so in
disregard of a court order that the government not so subtly spurns.

Abrego GarcΓa was removed to El Salvador in violation of US law and in violation of our obligations under international law. US courts have ordered the US government to fix its "mistake." To be very clear: if Trump asked Bukele to return him, he would.
