I think it's worth it here to upgrade to the paid version of Adobe Scan. There is a page limit in the free version, and you want to be able to get each volume as a single file w/o needing to stitch things together.

You are working from a smartphone, also, which lets you avoid any sort of undue stress to the volumes.

Faced something similar with a set of prison records (*daily* jailer's reports over ~20 yrs), and Adobe Scan was the ticket, as it has been for many years. For now, just scan and go straight through to the end.

History majors have lower unemployment than computer science majors.

Folks with humanities graduate degrees are more sought after by corporate recruiters than those with MBAs.
