a fun part of these collections is hearing for example, Jelly Roll Morton's "The Chant" as recorded by the Original Memphis Five, and then comparing it to the version you know

2. Original Memphis Five (c. Nov. 26, 1926): youtu.be/Yao4basQOqo?...

On 4th March 2010 and 27th August 2011 we had played concise improvisations (one hour) in conventional concert contexts, the first, Doom and Promise was released as a CD on Rothko Chapel publications.
For our third appearance at the Chapel, we expanded the scale of the performance to match the setting.
Playing continuously from 12 midday till sometime after 4pm, we encouraged listeners to come and go, or, if they had the stamina, to stay for the entirety.
Tempo doesn't include the first hour but everything else is in the order we played it that day, including an extension where - clearly oblivious to time - we sail on beyond the planned four hours.
In listening to the recording it is clear to us that Tempo is one moment - the breaks between CDs are only there because of the limitation of the media.
That afternoon Houston experienced a massive storm
- you will hear rain and thunder - and in the Chapel, the natural lighting the paintings are viewed in was reduced to profound gloom.
Mural | Tempo
Three CDs and three hours plus taken from a four hour single improvisation recorded at the Rothko Chapel in 2013.

Still a great album after over 30 years! I was one of those saxophonist's really motivated by the jazz scene happening in London back then. Seemed so vibrant and full of hope ... what happened?

Just back from seeing EX LIBRIS, Fred Wisemanβs terrific documentary about the New York Public Library. It was put on at Homerton Library which gave it extra depth β as if we were all somehow profoundly connected to the film. See it if you can. Itβs a work of hope in dark times. (1)

Just posted another classic of UK jazz earlier this morning. This one (that I'm listening to on a lovely sunny morning), is a real classic, timeless even. I'd rate this up with many of the 'famous' jazz albums that appear on people's lists. If you don't know it, you should!

#jazzsky | The Artistry of Freddie Hubbard is a significant album by trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, released in 1963 | This was his first album for Impulse! Records and showcases a mixture of Hubbard's compositions and jazz standards, highlighting his virtuosic trumpet skills.

#jazzsky | Although Scott LaFaro and Elvin Jones' names appear prominently on the cover, the album is actually Gipsy, by altoist Herb Geller & His All Stars. Released in 1959, it features a collection of jazz interpretations of Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim's songs from the Broadway musical Gypsy
