Apparently tests do count. Failed weapons do not.

There’s still some ambiguity here about what constitutes a “detonation” though.

Bad things happening at nuclear power plants (specifically nuclear fuel melting, not explosions, although these have been conflated since it came into common-ish use) is where the term came from. The emotional meltdown meaning is actually pretty new.

I’m very clear with people that I don’t consider Gary jokes or fear mongering funny and yet people still run their mouths about it any chance they get.

Honestly, yeah. I’ve talked some about how the Gary area was considered a likely target during the Cold War bc of the steel manufacturing, and otherwise very normal white people frequently respond to this with some version of “they’d be doing us a favor.”

I didn’t know the history, but, yeah, that lines up with when they suddenly started popping up.

I think they took off so hard in the US (& Canada, I guess) bc there’s not a lot of milk-in-tea drinkers here, and it took the invention of a tea latte to make people realize it’s a great combination.

I do have some sympathy for the family though. Like, it’s easy to look at this and see them wanting to exploit a tragedy for money and fame, but, also, if you were handed a narrative that gave your teen daughter’s senseless, tragic death meaning, wouldn’t you desperately cling to that?

I would use this. I’m afab but feel like I have no sense of facial aesthetics or what I’m communicating with different makeup looks. Not sure when cis girls typically learn this, but my ND non-binary ass missed it.
