I won a few things from Turn It Up, but have no memory of what they were! I seem to remember that Radio Sussex did then what BBC Radio Scotland are doing now, binning off minority interest music programmes like this.

Complex, multi-layered rock making use of a host of different instrumentation to create a dense soundscape. Frontman Jason Pierce, formerly of late 1980s feedback weirdos Spacemen 3, has put together an album with very few quiet moments. From Memphis horns to the London Community Gospel Choir, this is nothing if not varied, as Pierce et al throw jazz and soul into the musical melting pot. Ciaran McGrath
The Dunmow Observer are keen on Ladies & Gentlemen. Thinking of adopting "late 1980s feedback weirdos" as my standard summary of Spacemen 3. 29 May 1997.

Text from page 409 of Postcards From Scotland by Grant McPhee: There were very few opportunities for emerging acts to play in Glasgow by the late 1980s and, to remedy the then 'pay to play' infrastructure, a.c. acoustics took matters into their own hands despite having formed only recently. Paul Campion: It seemed more sensible to engineer a support with established bands, get a support and play to a big audience. Spacemen 3, a band we loved, were on a UK tour (in 1989) and we saw that they unusually had no tour support. Caz Riley (Bass, a.c. acoustics): We got the initial early gigs mostly by lying: we'd phone the agents and tell them the venue wanted us on the bill and then phone the venue and tell them...
Text from page 410 of Postcards From Scotland by Grant McPhee: ...the agent wanted us on the bill... by the time they spoke, they both thought we were on the bill. Roger and Paul were very good at that stuff. Paul Campion: I phoned [Spacemen 3's] manager in London and convinced him that we were possessed of a huge and growing following in Glasgow and he told me that if the promoter was happy he was happy. I then phoned the promoter and told him that Spacemen 3 were huge fans and we had been contacted by their manager and asked if we would support them. He told me that if they were happy he was happy. With zero following we supported them and played to the best part of a thousand people in Glasgow. One of our first gigs. That was at a time when people actually watched support bands.

Spiritualized โ Live at the Royal Albert Hall. CHRISTMAS has come early as Deconstruction finally release 1997s pivotal Albert Hall concert, the moment at which Spiritualized were able to extend their cult following to the point where this concert was a total and utter sell out. Covering the entire show the set list is largely drawn from Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space, with a couple thrown in from Pure Phrase and Lazer Guided Melodies. Of the 15 tracks there is a reworking of Spacemen 3s Walking With Jesus, a take on Oh Happy Day and a sublime rendition of Shine a Light. Live at the Royal Albert Hall is surely a testemant of the success of this once cult outfit . Needless to say, ladies and gentlemen you won't be disappointed. Michael Hartley
The Derby Evening Telegraph give the thumbs up to Spiritualized's live album. 30 October 1998.

05.03.2026 12:09 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The spacey genre of trance rock โ marked by mellow, hypnotic guitar lines โ can be risky. When it's bad, it's gaseous and dull. But when it's good it is no less than mesmerising. And the trance rock on this new EP is good, very good. Although Spacemen 3 have gone bust, former frontman Sonic Boom (yup) is carrying the torch with his new outfit Spectrum. On this all-covers four-tracker, Spectrum pare down all possible indulgences to arrive at a work of rare and simple beauty. There's even a dominant motif of reassurance, seen in song titles like Baby Don't You Worry and It's Alright, and in the pleasing lilt of the Beat Happening title track. Other artists getting the Spectrum treatment include Bo Diddley, Daniel Johnston and Jan and Dean. All four son5 are uniformly gorgeous.
None-more-positive review of Spectrum's Indian Summer EP from the Waterloo Region Record (Canada), 21 October 1993.

It surprised me too. Not the sort of thing I'm likely to go to, but yeah, good to see.

Spacemen 3โ Sound of Confusion: The best Spacemen 3 album, mostly because it sounds better than the others when played loud as fuck. Sounds like how i imagine garage rock mustโve sounded when it was the new wild shit.

Spz! SFA! The line-up is looking good already - last year was great despite knowing very few acts. And resonably priced despite Ticketmaster's best efforts to add fees. Cheers @mogwai.scot. #bigcityfestival
