May need another app to remind me that The Racing Line exists given the amount of time I spend thinking "huh I should look up when the racing is" and even sometimes looking up when the racing is rather than checking the app I bought because it would save me a ton of time on looking all the stuff up.

Making similarity scores for race car drivers is one of those things I'd love to do but would take ages. But non-quantitatively, he's like...IndyCar's Jenson Button (with worse luck)? Popular, talented, but not actually exceptional in any huge way.

(For people unfamiliar with the nonsense going on in British junior motorsport, GB4 is the cheaper but unofficial F4 series, as opposed to British F4 which costs more but gets you superlicence points. They both usually have fields in the mid-20s, so it's probably just as well there's two series).

GB4 posted this today - they did manage 25 entries for the first race last year, but we're still more than a month away from that, and even testing doesn't begin until next week! Good news for the British pyramid I guess but even more so for financial accessibility.

It's maybe not obvious how tiny Doriane is being here, so for reference here's Juan Manuel Correa demonstrating where the driver's head is _supposed_ to be in an Oreca 07 in reference to the thing at the back (which is, yes, a headrest).

It occurs to me that Airbnb really is the natural sponsor for any series in which multiple drivers are taking, um, short-term occupancy of the same racing car. Particularly in the case of LMP3 where you're also mostly praying the last person who had it didn't trash the place.

A scatter plot showing points in F3 on the x-axis and points in F2 on the Y-axis. There's a fairly tight grouping in a relationship that looks roughly quadratic, except for three drivers who are failing to fit in.
This, on the other hand, except for the three obvious outliers (who were Alex Dunne, Sebastian Montoya, and Kush Maini) looks pretty tight (even more so if you add 30 or so points on to the 22/23 set to correct for F2-23 having one fewer round than 24 and 25).

A scatter plot showing F2 drivers who competed in consecutive years since 2022, with points in the first year on the x-axis and points in the second year on the y. The points are generally on a diagonal from bottom-left to top-right, but with a significant amount of spread (and the individual year doesn't matter much).
Weird things I have discovered while doing the F2 preview: the correlation between the points a driver scored in their last season in F3 and their first season in F2 is somewhat stronger than that between two consecutive F2 seasons. You can see there's a correlation here, but also a lot of scatter

No surprise the 1812km of Qatar was postponed under the circumstances, those being "it turns out it's hard to stop a conflict between one side that doesn't know what it's doing and one side that doesn't know who's in charge". Should presumably be possible to get all the kit back to Imola for mid-Apr

I feel like if you're an LMP2 team you let drivers keep the seat because you want the driver who just moved to your team to bring the seat with them....
But also I think Roda's like normal racing driver height whereas Verschoor's actually quite tall so he's probably biggest.

I imagine that should be relatively easy for Roda ("here's the insert I was using the the Asian Le Mans Series, guys") and probably more work for the other two since Verschoor has never driven a Oreca 07 and Doriane has spent about 3000 days in a gym since she did...

Nael did indeed win Macau, and I maybe should have mentioned it, but it was mostly SC luck. Last year's Macau race was slightly less of a mess than the previous year's but still wasn't really driver skill (at least not in the results - there was enough green running to be clear Slater was fastest).
