Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway smiling while listening to students during the class visit.
Last week, Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes Conway visited Dave Schmiedickeβs PA892: Public Budgeting class. She spoke with graduate students and discussed the politics behind the City of Madison's budgeting process.
Thank you, @satyaformadison.bsky.social, for speaking with our students!
The Housing Snapshot report shows our efforts to create more housing in Madison are beginning to pay off. We are starting to move toward a healthier rental vacancy rate, and City incentives mean affordable homes are still being built, even as construction costs rise.

08.03.2026 15:09 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The 2025 report details progress producing housing in Madison, leading to an improved rental vacancy rate, but demand still outpaces new supply as land and construction costs continue to rise. Those factors continue to limit housing choice across Madison, especially for low-income households.

"The Madison Common Council voted unanimously in January to ban the construction of new large-scale data centers for one year.
That was a good and necessary move."
Madison is a candidate for this year's Strong Towns award. I know how much you like voting Madison, you know what to do!

Trumpβs Attack on Iran Is Reckless -
@nytimes.com
βIn his 2024 presidential campaign, Donald Trump promised voters that he would end wars, not start them. Over the past year, he has instead ordered military strikes in seven nations.β

I'm begging my fellow politicians, Illinoisans, and Americans to realize that right now, we aren't fighting over policy or political party.
We're fighting over whether we're going to be a country rooted in empathy and kindness β or one rooted in cruelty and rage.
For Black History Month, letβs try to go deeper. Letβs learn about those whose names we donβt already know, and about the strategies and tactics they used to succeed. Letβs uplift their stories and look for lessons we can apply in our own lives, today.

"The twin homes provide an opportunity for working families to build equity and establish roots in the community.
City and land trust leaders view this Owl Creek project as a model they hope to replicate throughout Madison."
Trump promised to lower costs, but instead families across the country continue to struggle with rising costs, which is why affordability is a top issue for voters. 1 in 4 U.S. households lives paycheck to paycheck.

Thank you, Governor Evers!
I'm grateful for the many leaders throughout the City of Madison who achieved meaningful progress toward our sustainability goals. I hope you'll join me in recognizing why local action matters and that you too feel energized about what we'll accomplish together in 2026!
