Any permits for new, large data centers within city limits will not be considered for the next 12 months.
If thereβs a way to use land efficiently to have a data center, Iβm open to that. But to me, it is really about the efficiency and the highest and best use of the land that we have left in the city.

2025 Housing Tracker Year in Review: New homes surpass annual average, focus on affordability
The City of Madisonβs Housing Tracker shows steady progress toward the goal of adding 15,000 new homes of all types by 2030, with its latest update providing preliminary year-end totals for 2025.
Our efforts to create more homes in Madison are starting to pay off. Weβre seeing an increasing percentage of affordable homes, and a high number of homes under construction. By improving our policies, creating incentives, or building new homes, we are using all our tools to keep Madison affordable.
