We loved seeing HOUDINI SPEAKS TO THE LIVING at the New York Public Library of the Performing Arts last night! It's a wonderful historical one-act play about a fictional debate between Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Harry Houdini on the legitimacy (or lack thereof) of Spiritualism and mediums. (1/2)

Or have him be scarred by a real-life injustice before going on his murder spree so that people say the villain was right all along and conveniently forget about all the murder.

Revising NO ONE IS COMING TO SAVE US has led to probably the biggest "kill your darlings" moment I've ever had: removing the subplot that was the original seed idea for the novel!

Looking forward to seeing HOUDINI SPEAKS TO THE LIVING tonight at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts! A debate between Harry Houdini and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle on the subject of Spiritualism, using their actual words!

The good news is, this is one of Jack Black's less insufferable performances, keeping it pretty grounded for most of the movie. Cate Blanchett is great, as always. (2/2)

THE HOUSE WITH A CLOCK IN ITS WALLS is a cute children's fantasy that I think kids will like a lot (provided they don't mind some mild scares). I enjoyed it, although I found it a little by-the-numbers and forgettable. Then again, I'm not the target audience. (1/2)
