A household still has a budget and an income and resources to manage; all the moving parts are the same but the focus is different. a business will let every person in it die a terrible death if it makes the business profit. A household will spend it’s last dollar to keep the people in it safe and healthy. A household will use money as a resource to add value to the lives of the people in the household. A business will use people as a resource to add monetary value to the business We don’t want a government run like a business, we want a country run like a household. Because we live here.

KOERNER, RAY & GLOVER The local icons of folk-blues will forever be best known for their marvelously unaffected 1963 recording, Blues, Rags & Hollers, and this Guthrie gig celebrates its CD release on Red House Records. The star of this trio, then and now, is Spider John Koerner, whose talk-sung rambles and casually dynamic finger-picking on National guitar tumble together with the sort of dilapidated logic that signifies an original stylist. Dave Ray is the best singer of the group and a mean guitarist himself, be it 12-string or bottleneck. Tony Glover's harp makes an ideal complement for both of his partners, being sweet and primal at the same time. Blues, Rags & Hollers was made in blissfully more ignorant times, when three young white boys could sing and play classic acoustic blues with conviction and have it generate positive political and racial overtones, rather than the tacky irony a similar effort might provoke today. This gig and CD reissue is both a nostalgic homage to those days and fresh chance to hear solid, still uncompromised musicians reprising some timeless blues tunes. $13-$15.
