My rule of thumb in game dev is that if it can move, it should be moving.

The doomerism around indie games right now is bumming me out. If you're just starting out as a dev and you love games, please make your game. Don't let people convince you it's gonna cost a million dollars.

I think there are a lot of ways to benefit from a platform like this that don't require you to own it and pull all the strings. He clearly states it would be an investment though, not a donation, so I don't think he's trying to hide anything.
