I was invited to a school to offer a workshop on arts-based math. I offered a sampling of dance/movement (make shapes from string and makenandance to move from one shape to others), drawing (built with pattern blocks or magna tiles first), and poetry (not shown...we analyzed and wrote Fibs). Fun!

Today was about Math Talks. Co-facilitated a session for district teachers that are embedded in schools. They experienced #slowrevealgraphs and #visualpatterns and got introduced to so many more. They planned a talk and taught it to a small group of colleagues. Walked away with a lesson plan.

It's so nice when a mentor and friend like @katiewhite426.bsky.social makes time in her schedule for dinner and a chat when she's in town! Loved our time talking about education, assessment, and just generally catching up over some yummy food.

Had so much fun today presenting at the @bcamt.bsky.social fall conference sharing the bank of Rosenthal prize lessons from @momath.bsky.social and giving attendees a little taste of one of my favorites...Tooti Tooti.

This space was buzzing all day as Vancouver elementary teachers were led and inspired by @katiewhite426.bsky.social to think about responses to assessment, involving kids in the response, and meaningful core competency reflections. 6 sessions in 4 days with various groups! It was AMAZING!

One more sleep to get to 4 days of learning and work with @katiewhite426.bsky.social! Can't wait!

Little bit of evening work helping train volunteer facilitators for Indigenous Ed Focus Day coming at the end of April. So happy this day will be fully in person for the whole district thanks to people stepping up to share the work.

Yes. I should have said after "you are" would be a verb, not an adjective. Reinforcing academic behaviours, not evaluating the person.

I just deleted, "I appreciate how you are..." in formative feedback on a teacher candidate's learning journal and changed it to "you are....and that means..." My time with @katiewhite426.bsky.social this week and thinking about removing "I" from feedback is right up front in my brain!

Our 3rd and 4th days with @katiewhite426.bsky.social in the VSB brought together elementary Ts. Dug hard into S work looking for strengths FIRST. Good questions, meaningful conversations, and new collegial friendships forged. Can't wait to bring everyone back together in 2.5 months.Thank you, Katie!

Bring close to 30 sec Ts teachers together for an evening and a whole day, have them bring student work, feed them, and put @katiewhite426.bsky.social in front of them, you get rich conversations, tons of growth in assessment, and well tended seeds that will grow until we gather again in May!

Day 1 of digging into assessment in the VSB with @katiewhite426.bsky.social was great (of course)...though I only got to stay for 50% of it. Maybe tomorrow I'll remember to take pictures!

Class 2 with elem TCs. Reflected on either @mathyawp.bsky.social's or @tracyzager.bsky.social's Ch 1 and Eddie Woo TED talk then wrote 12-word stories. Insightful. I really 'hear' Simone Weil in one.

Met my teacher candidates for their first elementary math methods class at UBC. I had a lot of fun and think they did too! No joke...I referenced @mathyawp.bsky.social, Marian Small, @mathforlove.bsky.social, @katiewhite426.bsky.social & @triangleman.bsky.social in one class! Ok..not hard!
