Three books in a pyramid on a white coverlet. The top book has a red cover with blacked out title and authors & is Censorship is a Drag. The bottom left book has an off white color with different color & thickness looping lines at the bottom and a big title that says βPreserving Disabilityβ & small words βDisability & the Archival Professionβ. The bottom right book has a blue purple green gradient cover with white letters that say βTrans and Gender Diverse Voices in librariesβ & small white letters saying βedited by Keahi Adolpho, Steven G. Krueger, and Krista McCrackenβ
Sophie was working the @libraryjuicepress.bsky.social booth, & I was excited to find out all books were 50% off! Censorship is a Drag is sold out but you can order it at the dsct! I was even more jazzed to find these 2 books Iβve been wanting to read for a while! Small but good haul today #alaac25

Social Responsibilities Round Table Afternoon of Social Justice
Call for Presentations
Theme: Artificial Intelligence
When
August 4, 2025, online, via Zoom
This event is free and Open to the Public - Advance Registration Required.
Registration will open in July, 2025.
Why
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a controversial and critical topic across numerous sectors that extend far beyond the domain of Library and Information Science. Its production, proliferation, and applications have vast social justice implications and human impacts that call for greater recognition and critical reflection. We hope to foster this learning opportunity at our 2025 event.
We are interested in dynamic presentations that explore AIβs vast and varied terrain. Here are some of the topics we are hoping speakers and attendees will explore through presentations and facilitated discussion:
Bias (algorithmic, human, racial)
Privacy
Ethics of/in AI
Sustainability, ecological, and environmental impacts
Carceral applications of AI
Reference services and AI
AI and immigrant communities
AI and racial or social justice
Digital equity and divide
Information production, integrity, and dissemination
Militarization
Public policy and application of AI for public systems and benefits
Critical approaches to Using and Teaching AI in different LIS settings/populations, e.g., academic libraries, schools, archives
ChatGPT and the future of academia/education
Labor, capitalism, and workforce/place issues (beyond LIS)
Global impacts, including trade, mineral extraction, and other issues
Applications in public policy and provision of public services
Submission Process and Deadline
Please submit your proposal using this form by June 18, 2025. Our planning team will review your proposal and respond as soon as possible. We anticipate a robust number of applicants and will make every attempt to be inclusive and accommodating of multiple perspectives and speaker availability. Please note that a small honorarium will be provided to all speakers who are not ALA members. Please share this call with your networks!
