A reminder that we immediately ban anybody claiming to be a "stream promoter" in our community. Even when they aren't technically a scam, they're 100% useless in bringing real people to your stream and community.

Is this harsh? Maybe, but spammers have been making themselves a constant pest on social media and Discord for years, drowning out the real artists who work hard to make a legitimate business helping streamers.

Generic "game" logo with 2 dozen meaningless hashtags taken from a fake artist's post.

"Artists" that make posts like this with a gazillion hashtags and generic logo designs or stream assets get blocked.

This isn't twitter, and we want to facilitate contacts between streamers and REAL artists, not with spammers who are likely to get streamers copyright struck with bad copy/paste art.

Sticking to streaming, but you can apply it elsewhere and see what it does.

2 viewers, you're hanging out with friends.
20 viewers, you have a community.
200 viewers, you make Partner.

Exactly HOW to do this, is of course the $64,000 question.

One thing to think about is finding some way to create a narrative for your stream that stretches between individual streams.

Could be progress within the game, or it could be something you're working toward in your life. Depends.

Quick social media headsup from the olden days: do not subscribe to any blocklists of which you do not -absolutely- know and trust the creator. A lot of trolls will make genuine looking blocklists, and then slowly start adding good people to them. Always verify account names & handles!

When creating *any* media in a crowded field, "good enough" usually isn't.

We all need to find ways within our style and temperament to make things that are *compelling* to the viewer.

MAKE them stay when they pop into our stream, and then make them want to come back.

If you are having issues with the app, finding your current handle, you might have to try again in a few hours. Their handle service is fairly overwhelmed because of all the new sign ups yesterday. It should resolve today according to them, but I can’t guarantee that.

A large number of people who stream will stop streaming some day. For all kinds of reasons.

I think the important thing is that we don't end up regretting the time we spent doing it.

Make friends, and make memories, because those are the only things you're guaranteed to take from it.

A big mistakes a previous manager for our community made on the other site was using a retweet bot for when our members went live.

I'm pretty sure that crippled our reach, even though we had 1000s of followers, as a lot of people muted the account to avoid the spam.

Won't make that mistake here.

One thing I'm tempted to do in our Discord is in our welcome channel with the React Roles, add 1 more at the bottom that literally says "react to this if you are a bot/scammer to get banned".

Because so many react to get all roles just in case they unlock channels/members they can spam at.

It's amazing how easy it is to spot the fake "artists" who post the same spam no matter what site they're on. When one of those follows us, they get a block.

One of the goals we have as a community is finding a way to put REAL artists in touch with streamers for commissions. Ideas welcome on this.

I didn't say "mobile users", but yes, this is a mobile app issue, not one people using desktop have to worry about.

Twitch streamers, be sure to have a chatbot command that links to your "subscribe" page on the web site!

By using their browser instead of the Twitch app to sub, this saves your viewers the 30% upcharge by Apple and Google, none of which goes to the streamer.
